When is the deal meant to be finalised?
Have you got time to try to sell your car yourself for a better price than the trade in price(could be worth a weeks advertising in Autotrader!)

I've got a Scirocco i'm picking up monday. My wait was similar, that's the way it is with this sort of car. Sell your car privately, thats what i've done.
Simple.
Plus with 2/3 price rises since you ordered it, the dealer won't care as if you don't have the car someone else will for more money than you are paying!

Ask the dealer what it booked at in Dec 09 and ask them what it books at now. They should have old copies most dealers do. If not ring a few dealers someone will have.

I can see both sides of the argument, i would suggest splitting the actual depreciation is a fair compromise. You have of course had use of your car in this time.

If all else fails your only option is to walk away, as you have pointed out this may only serve to cut your nose of to spite your face.
Speak direct to the sales-manager or the Dealer Principle. The salesman will have no say in this what so ever.

Another thing to consider is the price now on the Scirroco and what the price to swap would be now..That could be more if the Scirroco is more expensive now.

Yes it is, there has been two price increases plus the VAT increase. Significant difference - hence the dealer will really not fight for OP's custom as they can sell it no problem at a higher price!

If you still want the car try negotiating down with the dealer, eg. you offer what you think is fair, they may come back with a price then meet somewhere in the middle.
Be sure to ask that the car be registered on the 1st March so it has the new registration. If you can get both these things, price reduced and new reg. then you're
probably getting a good deal.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me, the dealer offered to cancel the sale and give me my deposit back but I negotiated the new reg. and £350 extra.
