Why do we still have 1p & 2p?

They are for women (especially those in the elderly subvariety) to search for in their purses, when you are in the queue behind them in the shop and are in a rush.0

They should make them out of aluminium or plastic like some Johnny Foreigner countries do. It makes them very lightweight so they dont wear holes in your wallet or pockets.
If we did phase them out and start at 5p, think of the inflation as all the prices rounded UP to the nearest 5p0 -
If we don't have 1p, 99p stores need to rename their shops
Lowest denominated coins in ciculation is a sign of good economy (yes even in current market). It indicates 1p still have some value.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
So businesses can charge £9.99 & advertise under £10.....Not Again0

The reason for items costing 99p instead of £1.00 originates from the days of old mechanical cash registers.
If a dodgey cashier wanted to defraud their employer they could pocket some of the money handed over by the customers.
Advertising items at 99p, £1.99 etc ensures 9 times out of 10 the customer will require change therefore the sale will have to be rung through the cash machine.
Interesting huh.0 -

That would explain after the 1st January 2000 nearly everything under the 99p was rounded up to 99p & under the 49p rounded up to 49p...
In todays world its all about the extra 1% - 49% profit....Not Again0 -
in Qatar they just give you a bag of chewing gum or similar rather than bother with small coinage"For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Those who don't understand, dont matter."0

I was speaking about this a few years back, time to ditch coppers and make everything a multiple of 5p
We should just stick to notes and sell the coin metal to china
