Why do we still have 1p & 2p?

Why oh why? Even the vending machines I used to use to get rid of the bloody things now only take 5p minimum!

This is an important thread.

Some people use coins, we don't all light our fags with £50 notes....

I used a 1p earlier today, when my shopping bill came to £2.06 - and I do like to give the right money. In the next shop I spent £2.68 and received a 2p in the change.

I also nearly bought a small cob loaf for just 2p in the Co-Op bakery just before they closed.

If you don't want yours, send them to me. I clearly use 1p and 2p coins to eat :)

If we didn't have 1p coins then shops wouldn't be able to charge £x.99.

Oh hang on,. garages charge 109.9p for fuel and we don't have a 0.1p coin.

I find them pretty indigestible, but they are OK if washed down with some Brasso, or hidden in a piece of polystyrene cake. cheeky-smiley-023.gif

I was speaking about this a few years back, time to ditch coppers and make everything a multiple of 5p

I reckon I have around 80 quid of coppers at home. Not because I want too, but because I cannot be bothered to sort it out and take it to the bank.....counting up being the worst thing.

Really should take some along to those coinstar machines I guess. Even if it's only a little bit at a time!

    Hate the stuff!

I seem to recall they did talk about phasing them out a while ago. I think that was because the metal in them, & the manufacturing costs for them were too mismatched.

I also recall this debate being run in the 90's, & some report suggested their main use was for charity donations, & also bus fare.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
