Which dry cat food best out of James Wellbeloved and Orijen?

Hello

I have a gorgeous nearly 4 year old ginger longish haired moggie and I am feeding him James Wellbeloved Duck or Turkey Dry. I believe its good dry and helps against urinary infections which he could be prone to. I also feed wet, hi-life, natures choice, tesco luxury and purina nature (i know purinas not great but he likes it and can be fussy!). He weighs just under 4kg so I am not worried about his weight and he's healthy!
I was just wondering if anyone knows if Orijen is better though or any other good dry food? Or wet food too if possible! He hates fish and prefers gravy to jelly wet.
Any advice would be most greatly appreciated! :)

They are both nearly as good as each other with Orijen being slightly better going by reviews from people who buy it. It depends on what one he loves the most. Why not get a small Orijen sample bag to try him on?

IMO Orijen is far superior to James Wellbeloved for the price, as Orijen is 75% meat and JWB is 26% meat. Cats are obligate carnivores, they do not need to eat rice or maize which are found in the JWB. I notice you are already feeding high meat content wet foods so I guess you are aware of this anyway? A second reason I would not buy JWB is that is is a MARS company so their ethics are not the best! :(

My furbaby was on JWB when I adopted him, and did stinky poops three times a day, he now poops once a day and it does not smell - this is on a mix of high meat foods, including Orijen. Other high meat dry foods that you might try include Pets at Home Purely More Meat or Applaws.

It's good that you are feeding quality food. The thing with people giving their pets dry all the time is that it must be pretty boring. It's like if we ate only biscuits. Also I don't believe that it does much good as animals are meat eaters not biscuit eaters lol so it's good that you give a mixed diet with wet food as well. Arden Grange is as expensive as Orijen and the poo doesn't smell with that either but being expensive doesn't mean you will be spending more then commercial pet food because you will not need to feed as much to the pet as you would the cheap stuff.

I feed mine a Raw diet from cats4-food and dogs4-food and they only have a little each day because thats all they need. The pup is being given slightly more then she would need as an adult though obviously.
  • I bought 2 small packs of premium dry food today to try on my cat. He'll have a week of Royal Canin Exigent 42 followed by a week of Applaws. I want him to feel satisfied with less food as he's now 6 and being neutered is getting a bit of a paunch. He gets raw chicken about once per week and is fond of scavenging out of the food recycling caddy!

He won't mind the change in diet, he's always had changes and I would say it does him good. A little too good in fact as he does love his food. I'll report back on what seems to suit him best in terms of appetite and general well being.

It did make me laugh today whilst looking at the new wet Applaws range. Chicken and butternut squash!!!!!!! I was tempted to buy him one of them but I know he'd turn his nose up so 79p wasted!
  • Cats do not need butternut squash...how ridiculous.
Chicken and rats feet would be far more appropriate!

Cats for food? That's a slightly disturbing name for a company supplying food for cats! Maybe you mean Food 4 Cats? As I've said in other threads, my bundle of fluff will only eat dry food, and is very healthy and happy on it too. It is Applaws though, so I don't skimp!

1 of my cats is fussy about wet food and only eats a little bit so he can push the other cat out of the way, but I put down whiskas beef flavour and it had peas in it, and the silly cat ate all the peas and left everything else. Though he really does like peas! He waits for them to fall out the freezer :D

    That is soooo cute!!!!

Mine loves chicken and fresh tuna, he's a bit spoilt! Tried to get on the food 4 cats site but it's down for maintenance right now! I will def get some Orijen now as it does look to be the best. I will try a small bag first. Many thanks for the help and advice to all!:)

Orijen, without doubt. No comparison really. Take a look at applaws too, almost as good as Orijen, similar ingredients and cereal free too, like orijen.
