  • History shows that 50p will soon become much more, will you still say"for crying out loud"then?

Well lets all keep the politicians in check then, eh?

Given that this is a tax for a specific purpose, I really don't accept that argument.

    agreed.

it doesn'take an einstein to understand that this is 'thin end of wedge' stuff.
personally, I'm not gonna miss £6 a year but that's hardly the point. this is yet another tax devised by nu-lab and I'm growing tired of their behaviour.
a visit to the front page of the daily mail isn't needed to feel that nulab's answer to all ills is to tax/fine/restrict.
if someone could assure me that this specific tax will be ring-fenced I'd feel so much better.

To have some level of confidence, I'd like to know :-
    - an estimate of total cost if we were going to roll out broadband to 99.5% of homes (or whatever consitutes total coverage)
    - a timespan to this activity
    - even a basic indication of what 50p per month means, in terms of additional income, and how close it will be to fund this roll out.

50p per month feels like gesture politics to me.

What a silly little person you are.

And on what basis do you say that income tax doesn't go towards unemployment benefit?

I don't think you are the brightest are you? However, try and stay polite, eh?

And on what basis do you say it does? Given the fact the tax an individual pays is nowhere near the amount it costs for the services they use.

Theres no need to get you knickers in a twist.

I was under the impression this was to help implement better network infrastructure across the UK and especially in rural areas, where with 70 year old phonelines even ebay is totally unusable.

Should of been done 10 years ago, pretty much everywhere across the world has better connections than us.

Ebay is virtually unusable even on 20 meg connection with a reasonably modern spec PC. :(

You really are daft, aren't you? Read my earlier post.

Where do you think the social security budget comes from? Little fairies at the bottom of the garden?

Knickers aren't in a twist at all. I'm doing very well for myself and family. I can happily afford 50p a month. It's less than a daily paper.

I am prepared to pay it but can't believe you are getting so het up, insulting people and being all lefty about things. Calm down dear. It's only 50p.

Agreed. Private sector hasn't got the funds (anyone seen BT's accounts....) so taxpayer has to bring the country into the 21st Century.
