    A 40" flatscreen tele is 20% more than a 30"

    - the way to decide HDD for the last 20 years in a non specialist market place, [ MTBF / platters / noise / gFORCE / heat etc ] is to simply work out how much HDD's are per GiGabyte.

less than 1/2T is totally uneconomic
    1/2T about 12.5p per gig
    1 T about 16.5p per gig
    1 1/2T about 17.5p per gig

    The difference between a 500 & 1000 is 4p per gig
    The difference between a 1000 & 1500 is 1p per gig

This graph is out of date, but something like this ! http://mediaprices.co.uk/cgi-bin/mediaprices/top10.pl?cat=4

Just bought myself a new Iomega Professional Hard Drive - Hard drive - 1 TB for £88 of ebay. When I placed it against the Iomega Prestige at £70 from John Lewis I thought what the hell it's best to do a bit of future proofing - and it did seem a good price.
