Router with VPN required

Hi all

Im after a decent router that allows VPN through it and works with Virgin cable

Any ideas?

    I'm using a Netgear WRG614 and that allows me to use a VPN tunnel to connect to work.

    Not sure how decent it is though as since I've upgraded to Win 7 I'm getting occassional dropouts that need the router to be reset to fix. It's also only wireless G. Have you tried asking Virgin to send you a free one? It's the model they used to supply, not sure if it still is.

    My brother in law has a vigor 2110 which he is very happy with, but he does not use VPN but I know it has VPN dial out as well, and they have a 2130 which has Gigabit ethernet rather than his 100/10 one. They are quite pricey imho I don't know where he gets the money from :D c110 / 150

    Download Endian Security appliance or Untangle, Linux based appliance with VPN, Firewall, Routing, DMZ, WiFi Network, Proxy, SMTP filter, anti-spam, Intrusion Prevention and more.
    Oh and it is free; all you need is an old PC with at least 512MB RAM, 1GHZ CPU.

    Just FYI: I usually test things like that out on a virtual machine, but endian kernel panicked under virtualbox and didn't like it. It worked fine under VMware though.

    I'd recommend Smoothwall express 3 as well.

    You can do a lot more with linux based routers than the 'home' routers that the likes of netgear and belkin produce

    I had a Linksys WRT54G for many years. Very reliable and highly configurable. Although it was not VPN compatible it certainly worked with Virgin (or NTL as it was then).
    This is my case for recommending this one. I may have missed it but couldn't see whether it was "N" or not though.
    Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!

    VPN Passthrough allows GRE (Generic Routing Encapsulation Prototcol), however you will still need a VPN server at the other end. Steer clear of PPTP type VPN's as they are very unsecure, use CISCO VPN, Open VPN etc with SSL. Endian, Smoothwall and Untangle all have a SSL VPN server installed and is very easy to setup.

    If it works without the router in place, try downgrading the firmware to initial release, and work upwards - later firmwares aren't always better.

    I cant find a way to downgrade (plus ive read my router just doesnt work with vpn with protocol 47 GRE which is what the vpn uses)
