  • I'm back with the Money Saving again.

I've had to take my car off the road as it needs repairs (to the brakes so it's not driveable) but have promised myself I won't take it to the garage until I've paid off the credit card. Not opened the statement yet - pay day is the 15th and it will be less daunting if I know I've money in the bank to at least pay some of it.

There are good things about not having a car - lots of walking will help my weight-loss and the 'big' shops aren't really accessible so I can't go shopping to cheer myself up as easily. Unfortunately it also means missing the Whoopsies but I think I still win.

Grocery budget ... doing it weekly kind of works but I'm going to go for monthly this time around and say £250 from 15th March to 15th April.

Don't wish me luck so much as common sense!

Another NS day here! Been quite a good day on the OS front today. Had the remains of last nights budget bolognese for tea, managed without putting the heating on, dried the washing outside, baked some cakes, and cut my own hair.:o

Bought a bag of bombay mix yesterday - £1.99 - nibbles for work.

Went to Tesco after work as wanted a newspaper and TV guide. Also got some tinned sweetcorn, kidney beans and tomatoes as running low/run out. £3.20 spent in there. Just realised I bought a tub of spread in there too, that's included in the above figure though.

Shouldn't need anything else this week, but will need some fruit and a couple of bits for next week so might get that over the weekend. Although I have just spotted guccigoo's post about the chickens on offer in Sainsburys so may have to pop out on the work bus tomorrow and pick one up!

Does anyone know when it says 'For delivery by: 12/03/2010' will they still be in store tomorrow, or does it mean the offer finishes today?

  • Nearly a NSD day but actually spent 69p on a reduced savoy cabbage for the rabbits & a half price bag of salad to have with either pizza or quiche tomorrow for tea. Should really make it pizza as we have a couple in the freezer but we shall see.

Freakyogre: The nice slow growth Elmwood chickens are half price in the Co-op at the moment if that helps. Offer usually runs Wednesday to Tuesday. £1.47 per kg.

I bought 4 for the freezer today to go with the six reduced chickens I bought from Makro yesterday - at c£2 each for two days meals plus soup you just cant go wrong.

  • Oh forgot to say that I was looking at half price turkey crowns & whole turkeys in the Co Op. The small turkeys were I think about £12 & medium ones £16 and I think small crowns were about £13 but I really don't know if this was a good price or not as I cannot remember how much I paid at xmas time. Anyone have an idea if these prices are good?

long tall sally - is that for fresh or frozen? My village store still has the frozen ones fom Christmas at silly money. I paid £9 for a 4.8kg frozen whole turkey from Aldi at Christmas if this helps.

    Hi all

Just popping on to update my sig and to have a moan about spending £6.75 in T*sco on 8 pints of milk, 2 packs of cheese and a cheap brown loaf!
I also bought apples, bananas and more bread/rolls in the C*op so have spent £10.18 all together today. 66% of budget gone.

I think dates quoted for offers are up to and including but I have avoided ordering things on the last day as I wasn't sure!
August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.
  • Hi hex2 - it was for frozen so I guess that means it isn't such a good deal? I bought my xmas one from Aldi but it was fresh but cannot for the life of it remember how much for. I thought the small ones in the co-op were really small as well. For now, I am glad that I didn't buy one.
