There is nothing in that video that would put me off flying with them

Anyone remember Globespan (iirc) the British airline that got grounded for safety problems!
Its been flying since 1996 and not had a single fatal accident and only had one problem when the aircraft slid off the runway causing 2 minor injuries. That if you ask me is an impeccable safety record.

  • air asia are fine, just make sure you take some food and entertainment and you will be fine. There is a tv/video thingy for rent on the plane but the movies on it are really old so its probably not worth it.

if you fly to KL you fly to their low cost terminal, which has buses available into KL or a transfer to the proper airport in KL. If you have an overnight stopover in KL, before you fly onto Aus there is the Tune hotel too, this is within walking distance of the terminal and is good for a nights stay before an ongoing flight. If you want to see KL st in the city.

    Scare mongering? ... AirAsia blog

I also noticed that their sister company Indionesia AirAsia is banned from EU airspace (i believe this was a blanket ban on all indionesion airlines?) ... anyways i decided to pay the extra £50 and fly with Cathy Pacific.

    Yes, it is scaremongering.

I think it is important to add the very simple fact to all this Air Asia are unsafe business - Air Asia have been flying since 1996 and has never had a single fatal accident.

Added to the fact that in the EU we have some of the most stringent air safety requirements in the world and Air Asia has been granted a license to fly within EU airspace.

I don't need no blogs, no hashed together videos on you tube - The facts are what will make me decide whether or not to fly with an airline.

just had look on air aisas site and it doesn't seem to be that good. im looking to go to vietnam from 20th-30th june. Malaysia airlines are doing it £1150 for the return flights for two people going via Kuala Lumpur. Air Asias basic economy just to Kuala Lumpur was £300 more and then we would need flights to vietnam as well.

Air Asia is what it is: a budget airline. I think this is reflected in the seat pitch (or not ;), paying for food, entertainment (if they could make you pay for air they would), but not much different to Ryan Air TBH.

HUGE amount of short haul flights which are really convenient in Thailand. VERY cheap - if you make sure you know about the charges!

    Knowledge is power and all.

This must be the best LCC in the world.
I flew 15 times in SE Asia and never once late. As I booked in advance, the prices were usually less than £10 but up to £30 ie from KL to Bali. I saw Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and the islands, Singapore and Bali for less than £100. All flights were on time, excellent CSR, clean, modern planes, and absolutely stunning female staff, so there was never a need to look at anything or think of anything else lol. They are gorgeous. Cheap food or drinks on board, all you need is your ref nr and passport. Easy as. Fantastic. I think they have an 85% load, which is very high, showing how well it has been accepted by the fantastic SE Asian people. The LCC at KL is good and transport to the city is easy and cheap. Great connections, and even more Air Asia staff all over lol. Enjoy.

Air Asia seem to be offering really cheap flights to the far east and Australia for travel up until September, does anyone know anything about this airline? I'm suspicious of their service at these prices.

Air Asia are horses for courses, caveat emptor etc etc.

They do a good job with interesting routes, and i've used them a fair few times with no real problems (yes, some delays, moody staff, poor customer services) but you get what you pay for. As long as you know in advance what you are getting into (like you should know what to expect on a Ryanair flight) I wouldn't worry one jot.

I've never found them as cheap from London as other airlines though - I've used Malaysia Airlines and Etihad in the last year, but found them to be more expensive once i'd totted up luggage, food, entertainment (which you don't all need), and onwards flying costs. By that I mean Air Asia are a point to point airline, you cannot connect onwards - delays etc are at your own cost.

However, for people with flexibility, who secure a good deal after working up total costs and comparing them against the competition, why not? As someone above said our own stringent safety laws mean they wouldn't be flying here if they were substandard.

I do wonder why Indonesian Air Asia does not attempt to climb out of the EU Blacklist (like Mandala & Garuda have done) though. They used to get Air Asia's tatty old 737's - and their Jakarta outfit can be shabby - ever been driven to 3 different planes before the bus driver found out which plane he was supposed to take you to? And on the return drop you off at a locked terminal?

Re the blogs - you can find them for Ryanair, Qantas and a few other airlines. That's what one disgruntled passenger / staff member can do with the internet...

2 Tickets Free From KL to Singapore. One Way Feb 2011 = 24GBP (109.00MYR)
