ntl to bt to talktalk

I'm thinking of switching from ntl to talktalk (with the free broadband) but I'd have to switch to bt first. Its free to rejoin bt, but would they then charge me if I then switched to talk talk straight away?

I think if you are re-joining BT you sign a contract to keep their line rental for three months so if you went to TalkTalk straight away you would then have to pay a penalty :)

Plus also if you had an NTL line goin back to BT they'll have to get an engineer out to convert it from a fibre optic line to a normal copper overlay telephone line :)

The NTL connection and the BT connection are totally separate and no conversion is ever done. Any property could have both connections although they may not be both in use. BT will connect for free as long as there is no installation work necessary.

also, be sure to change your NTL originating telephone number to a BT one as Talktalk don't like them and you won't get free broadband.

to avoid the 3 month penalty, go with euro1net instead of talktalk. no connection charge and 50GB cap instead of 40GB.... http://www.euro1net.com/freebroadband/. £9.99 a month + BT line rental. You keep your BT line and therefore pay no penalty. All calls are feree, but not international like on talktalk.

Cheaper than talktalk becasue of their £30 connection charge. Only downside I can see is thatyou pay upfront so £180 for 18 months.

    Worth a look though.

You can't have the £21 broadband package if you've had NTL due to some Gov't legislation.
My scenario over the last 5 years.
Had NTL phone line & number
Went back to BT with same number as cheaper at time.
Switched to TT phone package 18 months ago.
Went to TT line rental about 9 months ago, we use BB only package from NTL for net.
When £21 TT package came available it said "No" on their avail checker.
I queried this & this is what I was told.
When we 1st had NTL for phone Nynex( as it was) install their eqpt at local BT exchange. This is left in place even when you go back to BT.
TT aren't alllowed to interfere with this due to some competition legislation.
Even though we have TT line rental it is actually BT and they buy it off them and sell it back to us. We can have a diff TT BB package but would work out more than my £9.99 discounted NTL package.
The only way we could get the proper TT package is to get a new BT connection from local exchange + new number which isn't cheap £70+ then TT can install their own eqpt.
    Crazy but true
