Did you burn the image to the CD/DVD or did you simply copy the .iso file to the disc? There is a distinct difference. In some burners you may also need to select the "make disc bootable" option.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com
  • Thanks for the help guys....

  • Everyone has there own preferences of burning software, i always Imgburn.

    download free from http://www.imgburn.com/

and when you start the program just burn image to disk. The image itself should already be bootable

What??? I wasn't suggesting that you ~install~ it! Just boot from it and run it as a LiveCD so you can see what's on the hard disk, with a view to fixing it so that XP will run again. Oh well, I guess that may be too late now.

Never mind, you'll probably like Ubuntu anyway...
  • Ah well, not sure how to run it as a cd??? but we'll see how this goes (taking ages)
BTW, its not ubuntu i'm installing its xp.

"The file usbccgp.sys is corrupted. press any key to continue" and then Setup failed press any key to restart your computer.

Probably caused by incompatible driver, i guess the cd you are using is not the Lappy's original recovery disc. Unless you have the disc/driver then that option is not going to help, you may end trying to install linux or search for a driver (I cannot remember if XP asks for driver installs before continuing)

  • I haven't got the original disc, so think I'll need to try Linux but have ran out of blank CD/r's with all my stupid messing about. Seems to select a different .sys file that causes the problem every time i try.

    Thanks for the help.
