iPhone Wanted ...

I am presently with Vodafone on a £25 monthly contract which is coming to an end in March.

I would like to get an iPhone 16mg (I think it is) in white, but the problem is I don't want to have to pay more than £25 per month for a contract.

So ... do I go down the line of purchasing an iPhone directly from wherever (advice on kosher places to do this please) or do I try to swap to another provider who can give me a deal so that I don't pay more than the £25 per month, and be prepared to pay something towards the cost of the phone?

Just not sure where to start.

Any ideas from you brilliant lot out there very welcome.

Only proviso ... do not wish to deal with Carphone Warehouse!!!

You won't get an Iphone on a £25 a month contract anywhere regardless of customer loyalty, deals, retentions etc.

If that is your set figure, your only real option is to buy a Pay n Go/unlocked Iphone for anything from £500-700 new or £220-400ish from Ebay, as far as I can see.

As for retailers, Play.com, Tesco, Apple themselves etc all offer them.

    Hope that helps. :).

baxgttdi is correct. The minimum tariff anywhere is £30 p/m with an iPhone and you don't get very much for that.

The best option I can see would be to sell your current handset and put that towards the cost of an iPhone on PAYG (They start from £343 on Orange) and get a sim only deal for around £15/£20 p/m with unlimited internet on for use with the iPhone.

    Good luck!
  • If I was to purchase outright an iPhone, could I keep my same easy telephone number just by transferring the sim card ...?
  • Have you considered any Android or other smart phones?

Yes, you could port your number. However, an iphone without the unlimited internet data is pretty pointless, so you'd have to get a sim only deal that includes data which is going to cost around £20 a month. When you factor in the upfront cost of the phone, it works out quite expensive.

The OP could get the £20p/m contract with Tesco for whatever it is (I don't have a clue!) but I'm aware theres a substantial cost for the phone. Still works out cheaper than a regular contract with the other networks.
  • davetrousers - I did look at a Samsung in a Vodafone shop this morning which was very similar to the iPhone, but not so good looking. It is a possibility ...

maxtweenie - I see your point and I would wish to have Internet access. Although we cannot get 3G in the valley where we live, Internet access would be useful for other occasions when I am not at home. When at home I could just use the computer.

Really just wishing to get the best outcome, and I would so like to keep my telephone number, so these are all things to consider. It's good to get the views of others prior to purchase.

T-MOBILE are doing a sim-only deal like 600 mins talk and 500 text with a "booster" add on that could be Unlimited Internet (which I assume you need for iPhone) all for £15 and only 12 months. The saving you make on the contract and selling you existing phone would make buying a iPhone more managable :)

All you need to keep the number you have is to request a PAK code from your existing provider. tell new company the code and you keep the number. Take a few days to change over.

I do not need to change my phone until sometime in March - think I am within the six weeks during which I could upgrade. It may be prudent for me to keep on looking to see if any iPhone deals become available during that time, but any further input on this subject would be welcome.
