£130 cashback for NPower

Just got an email saying topcashback are now paying £130 to switch to NPower.

Just 12 hours too late for me! I was hacked off with EDF so I started the switch to NPower last night when the cashback was £120. Because I want to save any penny possible can anyone recommend what to do to reapply and get the extra £10 cashback.

TIA

npower are no good for punters who wish to/already are serial switchers for cashback purposes so should be avoided! Reason being the figure shown on the switching sites includes the annual discount of £100+ which is only paid when you ahve been with them for 12 months. Switch away before the 12 montsh are up and you will lose £100+, effectively. Scottish Power and EDF tend to charge a penalty of £50 for a dual fuel deserter, which if you can get £120 cashback for the switch makes it worth taking one for the team and pay the penalty for moving on again for cashback..

Not true. £8.75 extra per month is not a barrier if you are switching every six to eight weeks. That is, surely, less than the other two suppliers (and tariffs) you suggest.

Their notoriety for not playing and paying the cashback companies in a timely fashion is more of an issue.

scottish power has Ts and Cs on topcashback anyone who'd recently applied for cashback and cancelled + reapplied for the higher amount got zero cashback..... I'd not risk it.
  • I applied for a cashback switch last year on sons house, as it was his first home and previously owned by an elderly couple who paid whatever bill came.

Did a dual fuel switch to scottish power, have had cashback but bills are still from BG and southern electric !

Will be switching again later this month
 I've paid the CSA off and stopped them taking payments:beer:
I'm stillowed some arrears by my ex

I was a NRP, now I'm a PWC, partner of a PWC, and parent of a PWC ( and very confused at times )

So are you saying NPower won't pay the £120 cashback to my topcashback account until 12 months time? The tariff I've chosen does have ties in until March 2011 but I thought I'd get the cashack a bit quicker than that.

    EDF paid within 3months.
  • Just got my bill from EDF and my gas usage has gone up by 2.5 times last quarter - and I had tried to be careful putting the heating on!

Anyway with the new usage figures it means Npower is no longer the cheapest to switch so have cancelled and will review next week and probably switch to SP.

    Hi,

Sorry to hijack thread but it is to do with the Npower cashback...

I purchased my first place on Friday, a brand new 2 bed apartment...
Now did some comparisons and Npower came up cheapest on a Dual Fuel for me... Also noticed the chance of cashback...

Stuck my postcode in the box, but where my building is so new it is not yet on their systems... So I am wondering, if I call them and get it all sorted over the phone, will I be able to get the Online Tariff and the cashback still?

    Thanks

This has now reduced to £80 sadly as I was going to switch today. I'll subscribe to this thread in case anyone posts to say it has increased again.

Just in case anyone is excited by the fact that the cashback has gone back up to 130 on the same day as npower has announced a 7% cut in prices, please realise that the prices on Sign on Line 17 will not be reduced as a result of the announcement. SOL17 is the cheapest online tariff, which is obviously the tariff you would switch to when taking advantage of this cashback offer.

In my own situation, npower comes out about 20 quid more expensive than the best as of today.

There are exit fees on this tariff as well, 20 pounds per fuel, and the 105 pound direct debit discount (for dual fuel) would not be received unless you stay on this tariff for a full year.

So, let's say in 2 months time there is another round of price cuts. Npower will come up with Sign on Line 18, a new product with competitive pricing. It will leave SOL17 customers on the prices they originally signed up to. If they want to get out, they will have to pay 40 quid and lose a 105 pound discount.

Meanwhile, the competitor that was 20 quid cheaper today may be 50 or 60 quid cheaper. Suddenly, they are also offering good cashback on top. Then, probably in October/November, npower may put prices up again, in time for the Winter peak in gas usage. If you want to leave, there goes 145 quid etc.

All I'm saying is that sometimes these deals are not all they seem at first sight. Since npower are especially incompetent, I may sit this one out for another month or two. I really don't like deals where a lot of the benefit is back-ended and contingent on staying put, leaving you subject to price variation. Also, cashback can be unreliable.
