Car hire

We are travelling to Brisbane in April and are looking to hire a car for 12 days. Due to luggage etc we will be requiring a full size car (mondeo size) at least

I have looked at all the major car hire companies (Hertz, Avis, Budget) and the cost is high compared to the likes of the brokers.

Carhire 3000 is the cheapest but I would like to try and get some feedback on them

Any help and advice would be appreciated

  • I hire a car about 10 times a year; I always use Holiday Autos.

The one thing to watch is the insurance on the hire car. The hire company will have an excess of €1000 (give or take) on the vehicle. They will try and flog you additional insurance to bring this down to zero. This can often be more expensive than the cost of the daily hire!

Thankfully, there are alternatives: Holiday Autos addititonal insurance is a few pounds per day. In my case I always take out an annual policy through insurance4carhire.com (discounted by a further £10 if you go via the Tiscali link). If you are renting as a one off it might not be worthwhile, but worth a look anyway.
