Grin all you want, kid - you're using lazy, ambiguous stereotypes to treat people like sh*t. You're clearly so much a better person than any shell-suited scrote........
(Interestingly, I wonder what an American dictionary of the mid-late 1800s would have featured as the definition for "Negro"?)
Let me guess........You read the Guardian...right?:D:D:D

What a nasty, squalid, offensive word it is. You wouldn't describe a poor black person using the "N"-word, so why would any reasonable, intelligent person use its equivalent to describe poor white people?
There are plenty of ways to describe others' conduct without resorting to lazy knee-jerking - if you're as much of a better person than them as you say you are, surely you can find and use them?I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0 -

Err... no. I think you have something of a point with regards the distastefulness of the term, but you are going off the rails on your logic here. You are being uncharacteristically unreasonable here.
The term chav does not imply all lower class people are ignorant or uneducated. It is only lower class people who are both ignorant and uneducated who are chavs.
If we drew a Venn diagram with 3 sets: one for all lower class people, one for all ignorant (in the sense of rudeness) people, and one for all uneducated people, it would only be the people who lie in the sector where the three circles intersect who would be chavs. The term chav would have no bearing on the lower class people who fall outside that sector.0 -
Stupid arguing aside;
Chavs;
Wear addidas tracksuit bottoms.
Probably got a hoody.
Some fake gold chains.
Had a handful of babies dress in pink track suits?
Swear a lot
Probably on benefits
Drive naff hatchback cars with alloy wheels playing Hard House music full blast.
This is what chavs do. People that do these things are chavs. You can dress it up and cry about "that's not politically correct that's like saying n1gger" etc etc. Get over it. We all know precisely what the OP was talking about, but some of us choose to get a bit pompous and get offended by ridiculous things.0 -
I can't believe that a thread about people taking hospital resources that aren't for them has turned in to a thread about political correctness, race and class.
Going back to the OP's point I've spent a lot of time in hospital over the last couple of years and the behaviour of some visitors is disgraceful from little annoying things like people bringing in packs of 200 cigarettes for people being treated in the specialist cancer unit through to people trying to fill their bags full of the food supplement drinks such as fortijuice because they want to use it as instead of eating to lose weight. It's so annoying to see these people draining the NHS of equipment and money but luckily I got quite friendly with a couple of nurses and could tip them off about people stealing and felt certain that these people wouldn't know I told the nurses about them. Now if that makes me a grass then so be it but I would rather be a grass than a thief.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -
Why don't we refer to these people as 'ASBO enthusiasts'. Is that acceptable?0

You are surprised hospital visitors behave badly?Even Chavs have go to hospital,unless we build them seperate hospitals?
Good idea, let's build them some hospitals funded entirely by chav tax contributions. A couple of manky blankets and a big hole in the ground for when they die from lack of treatment should be all that's required.0 -

Yesterday afternoon a close very elderly relative was taken into hospital, very seriously ill, so my OH and I had to go and accompany her to make sure she was ok, as my GF is the next of kin.
It was all a very traumatic experience (for everyone) and quite touch and go, but eventually she was stablised and transferred to a suitable ward where she is now under supervision.
What I'm ranting about is the chavvy and - quite frankly - low behaviour of others visitors.
The ward my GF's relative was in had a fridge which contained snacks and food for patients. The fridge clearly states 'this food is for patients only' and there was a big yellow sign above the fridge saying 'Food in this fridge is for patients only - please ask a nurse before taking anything from this fridge'.
The person in the bed next to us had their family visit. But presumably they can't read, or else they wouldn't have repeatedly helped themselves to food in the fridge for their dinner. Not just once, twice...but four times they completely raided the fridge like vultures. Not for their patient, but for THEMSELVES!
Eight sandwiches (for two people), two cartons of orange juice, three packets of prawn cocktail crisps, two yoghurts and a carton of apple juice. None of this went to the patient, but they took it upon themselves to treat the hospital resources as their own canteen.
Not only that, but they then had the cheek to approach a nurse and complain about one of the spoons being dirty (that they had pinched from a cupboard clearly marked 'nurses only').
I know this sounds pathetic, but it was such a rude thing to do. The food was for patients only - it's not for visitors. My GF and I managed to pay for our own food from the canteen, but these really chavvy visitors felt compelled to eat their way through the patient's fridge without even asking. It wasn't even as if they had a sandwich each - they literally raided the fridge four times and wolfed down four sandwiches each like gannets. Pay for your own bloody food you spongers!
Anyway, rant over. Feeling really deflated and my faith in other people has been let down a bit.
Hello Bungle.
I certainly hope that your GF relative is on the mend now,it must have been a very difficult time for her and the relative.
Personally having seen what you did i would have gone upto the nurse in charge and made her aware of what was happening,they may have removed the food from the fridge whilst that particualr paitient was in the hospital,not an ideal soloution because it impacts on others,however it would stop the relatives from helping themselves to food that was clearly marked and destined for paitients.
As for the word Chav i have always found it quite difficult to put anyone in that social class....(for want of a better word),go to any estate or town centre and you will see loads of young people who are out in groups having fun,messing around,causing a little bit of a trouble,being loud,dropping litter,swearing.......Is that not most of us did when we were young? fair enough you have the other end of the spectrum where you have youths who go about scaring the bejesus out of old people,causing trouble with the express desire to have a fight,steal your money,threaten you,hang around town centres and street corners drinking,making false fire calls then attacking the fire officers when they attend.
Are these what you might calls Chavs,or are they just Social and intellectual midgets that are endemic in our society now,it seems to be the in thing these days with young kids putting there fingers in a certain position that shows your eligence to a certain gang or group.If the parents kept the kids in the problem may only be a small one.
I dont know any of this from experience,im just expressing an opinion.If im wrong im wrong!Forum spellcheckers are the pitts.0
