My OH is much better at doing the dishwasher/washing/cleaning than I am. I make sure that is the case Shushhhh, don't tell.

Secretly, I suspect she may do the same in motorcycle fixing and getting the septic tank pipe running after a blockage

Lotus - I can do quite a few of what are considered to be 'typically' male jobs. But.....some things I am rubbish at! ie, I could probably put the tiles up, whether they would look nice and stay up for longer than an hour though.....that's another story! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

If your mum doesn't want to have any unpleasantness with the neighbour, she could just say, "oh our so & so is going to do it for me". But yes, the woman was very rude, and No, I wouldnt give the tiler the job

I think she should look for someone else, and not give 'M' the time of day again, brass necked mare.

Yes it is out of order but I also think you are over reacting a little. The simple thing to do is to decline the quote, get the work done by someone else and stop associating with "M".

Errata

No insult intended to your mum, but if she's over 55 her local Age Concern should be able to give her a list of Age Concern Approved workmen, and one of them might be a tiler or competent at tiling. Approved means AC believe they are competent workers who won't do a bad job or rip off the customer. It doesn't mean AC actually recommend them IYSWIM.
If I were your mumI'd be telling the neighbour and pseudo tiler/gardener to do one.
