Hang on, we don't really know anything about the job, just get a couple if proper tiling companies in to quote and then you will know the real price.
I would advise getting in real tilers anyway, having seen the bodge jobs, odd job men do.
£200 for 4 days work does seem a little low, difficult to live on that SE wage!

  • I'd do it for £150, no problem.

£200 for four full days work is ridiculous, my Dad used to charge £100-120 per day, materials would usually be on top of this. I would say that £150 is too much though, 20 tiles is about 2 hours work, grouting about 1 hour (including mixing it from powder) and another hour for cleaning the excess off. I'd have thought max of £80 for a local not paying for materials, just because he's potentially coming back three times.

But 4 days to remove 20 broken tiles and replace them is taking the pee!!

I had my entire kitchen tiled by 2 guys in 2 days.

  • Do you have the guts to go round to the friends house and have a look around the house?......would be so funny if you and your mum just turned up and proceeded to inspect the house :D

I think she was looking around the house to gauge how well off she thinks you are and this determined how much they then decided (in french) to charge you. I think many workies do this, if you watch them when they come in, they often have a sneeky look around as they go to whatever room the job is......and also chat (innocently) with you to find out what you do for a living etc.

They were out of order and very rude.....but it's cost them a job so they will live and learn!

Why male? Can women not tile?

Of course they can, but......a lot of women don't feel confident in their abilities to do these things, so don't even try.

That being said, you are right, there will be some women who can/will do it.

I just think, as much as I hate to admit it, that she will have more luck in finding a male relative/friend to do it.

    (And I'm female btw)
