Can't believe people still don't "know" the rules!

Hi Guys,

Constantly amazed that people who place items on ebay still don't understand the rules of the game!

  • Oh don't get me started on Mumsnet. Loads of posh types trying to sound cool by giving themselves rude user names.

Maybe it's because ebay started off as a online car boot sale and people who rarely use it still expect it to be so?

Just read another thread on here where someone didn't know the rules and am saddened that those who are immersed in ebay selling seem to have forgetten that they had to learn all the rules themselves in the past.

I always thought MSE had "no question too stupid" - I've learnt a lot from others asking questions I didn't know I had to ask.

The mumsnet thread is obviously a low ebay user who has no clue where to start when RM lose something. I remember being there - and having already read this forum, I knew what I had to. Had I asked the question on MSE, I'd have hated to get people either criticise me for not knowing the rules, or others posting threads pointing people to my lack of knowledge.

We all have to start somewhere though, and we were all newbies once. Although sometimes you do want to scream "get some common sense you stupid wazzock!" just step back and play nicely with them. I agree with bylromarha, I wouldn't like to be flamed for asking what I thought was a simple question. If I am confused about stuff I tend to google it first before asking online anyway, to avoid any possible flaming shots fired in my direction :p

  • Occasional buyers + sellers who don’t know the rules is expected (eBay chop and changes rules so often!) if you haven’t used eBay for 6 months then you cant be blamed for being in a mucking fuddle when it comes to rules.

What ticks me off is when large sellers / power sellers don’t know the rules or know the rules just enough to bend them.

It's a shame when a genuine private seller just isn't up to speed on things and they get flamed for asking for pointers. Better they ask than just not bother.

I can see both sides of view, but some people are so self-centred and blinkered that they do not look at the obvious common sense.

Why should any buyer be out of pocket for non-delivery? How would the seller feel if they were the buyer who was left without their goods?

It's only a 'stupid' question in other people's eyes...maybe they're the ones with the problem?

So... you think "do i give refund or not?" for an item that's not arrived isn't a stupid question?

It's not about what I think...the point is, the person who asked it clearly was unsure, so why was asking about it deemed a stupid question? It was a question about what to do, she got her answer, all's well that end's well.

To me, the only thing that's stupid about the whole senario is people's reactions to it.

Edited to add..in the case of the seller, at least she will be better informed now by asking, so something good has come out of it but in the case of this thread, what good comes of slagging her off? Just seems like sometimes people prefer to give out a roasting rather than help.
