Judi - what I did was ask them to re-write my job description and then used that as a case of saying 'here's my new job' compared to what you hired me for so can I have some more dosh please :)

Its never easy but if you put forward a good case they at least should consider it - even if they cant afford it now.

Problem is that they are asking me to do a job I have no experience of - I am sort of flattered that they think I can do it and they have offered me loads of support gain the skills I need - perhaps I don't believe I deserve more money cos I don't know what I'm doing!

So what they've asked you so they know you can do it!

Another tack is to wait till a few months in and then go for it but its risky because they might say 'ah but you've been doing it already'

Or you could ask to be put on a probationary period for the extra stuff and subject to completion of this in six months you get a pay rise...

Honestly - dont ask and you dont get!! Trust me on this - I sat quiet in my job for ages and only mentioned something in passing at the xmas do and now next week I am interviewing for a new role that they have created with me in mind! Imagine if I hadnt said anything

My OH is talking about quiting his job, and I've pointed out a few things that we'd need ot buy another car, how woul;d we survive off of my wages and pay the mortgage etc. And I get shot down for always being like that when he says he's going to quit!

Tell him it's a wonderful idea. You have in mind a sparkling self-employed career for him: On the docks in leather shorts...

I have suffered from these recurring throat infections since we moved into the new build at work, I am almost convinced that it has something to do with the air conditioning re-cycling all the germs around the college.

Buildings now have to be air-tight (literally - there's a test) for reasons of energy saving.

If you google "sick building syndrome" it gives you some idea.
