Connecting Ipod Touch - Help please?

Hi there
I'm pretty clueless about tech stuff so hope it makes sense?!
I want to buy an Ipod Touch now & later on, a laptop. I have Virgin broadband with a modem (I think that's the right name) for the pc, not the wireless version. Will the itouch connect with this, or do I need to buy a usb wireless adaptor or see if virgin will provide me with a wireless router?
Thanks for any replies.

You will need a wireless router to use instead of your modem. With that you will be able to connect your future iPod touch and laptop wirelessly, and retain a wired connection to your existing PC. You can try to get one out of Virgin (I don't know what their policy is on giving them to existing customers), but if they want to charge for a router it is likely that you will be able to get one cheaper elsewhere.0

I dont think there should be a problem getting a wireless router from virgin, i have found them to be pretty accommodating.Norn Iron Club Member 417:beer:0

iPod Touch can connect by wireless, Bluetooth or USB.
But USB modems are outdated, you should move your cable connection onto a wireless router and use it wirelessly or by ethernet. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thank you everyone.
I spoke to virgin, they said it would be £40 for a wireless router. I said I was thinking of leaving them anyway, as I have bb problems all the time & was put through to that department & a wireless router is now being sent out free
So hopefully everything will work now!!0 -
Hi again
I've got the router & virgin won't help me with the settings for ipod touch only when i get a laptop. A link has come up in the wifi settings but it's still won't connect, can any one help please?
Thank you0 -
To connect the wi-fi you just need to enter the same encryption code as is set on your wireless router. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Where do you enter the encryption code please?0

This is what happens, itouch says choose a network, so I click dlink, it has listed an IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router & DNS.
Search domains & Client ID are blank, if that means anything?0 -
Go to Settings, Wi-Fi, select your network, it should come up with a password request, that is where you enter the encryption code.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Really? How?
The iPod Touch doesnt have bluetooth or any USB ports, I really don't see how you can connect in these ways, even the iPhone which does have bluetooth has a restriction on using the bluetooth for data use.
Pretty sure the only way to connect the Touch is via wifi.====0
