He's married all right, I wonder why he brought it up?

Does he really think it doesn't count? I would wonder what intellect he is, if he really thinks so.

I think if both partners are Italian, they would have to get divorced in Italy, But there maybe other possibilities. I don't know the legalities! My husband is Italian, so that is where I know from about the 'long divorce process' in Italy.

maybe he's wishing it didn't count but it does. if he marries her without divorcing it will be bigamy.

a link to civil ceremonies in italy...."civil ceremonies in italy are legally recognised throughout the world".

has he explained why he won't get a divorce? was he actually in a relationship with the person he married or was it for some other reason such as immigration (i.e. is he a native eu citizen). i know someone who married like this and has now stupidly even forgotten the name of the person she married meaning it's hard to get a divorce or trace the marriage.

No he's English and his wife is English but they got married in Italy, and he reckons he isn't on the marriage register here so it doesn't count, oh and he doesn't know what date he got married either:eek::eek:

is there any way of contacting the wife to find out? any guests who attended? if he can remember where the ceremony took place there must be a way of tracing the record. how come he is no longer in touch with the (not so ex) wife? is she likely to be after money?
