  • I still think these increases will tail off and prices will flatten out and stagnate but no big crashes

i called an estate agent to enquire as to the price of a house I saw.

It was a detached 4 bedroom house. From the outside it looked as though it needed a lot of work.

they wanted 1.1m. Yeah, 1.1m!!!!! i don't see any signs of any crash.

they had a semi detached a little further up the road - 1.25m!!!! hahahahaa

    there is no crash.

but those prices are insane. these are not mansions - just suburban family homes.

There is a big difference between wanting and getting.......

Too true - I almost feel sorry for these bears watching and despairing as the market pulls away from them.

    Life is sooooo unfair !!!

    :rotfl:

I don't honestly think that the market can move MUCH higher. Having recently sold up and moved into rented accommodation, I feel liberated from being tied to a house and being responsible for it's maintenance etc.

    Benefits of renting over buying for me are ;
    • I am not paying 2.5 x more for an asset that the previous owner purchased only 8 years previously
    • When the BTL landlord who owns several of the houses next to the house I owned decides to rent to Polish/English chavs or benefit seekers who consistantly play happy hardcore and keep me awake all night, I can move house easily.
    • If I need to change jobs, I can relocate without the costs of buying/selling
    • Due to the mortgage/rent cost differential, I can rent in a more expensive area, without the accompanying chavs/benefit seekers who plagued my life previously
Don't get me wrong, I would love to own my own property, however I joined the ladder at the wrong time. I earn £27k p.a and purchased a house for £110k (had a £20k deposit). Some of my neighbours were owner occupiers and only had minimum wage jobs but had bought before the boom!

I do intend on buying again, however I am waiting for my career to mature, so that I can earn more and buy a more expensive property, which will hopefully be out of the reach of chavs from a rental or mortgage perspective.

In todays society, success cannot be judged by the house that someone owns.

I agree. I have some well off clients that have a very modest property.

I hate the way we judge one another all the time based on visible assets or occupation for that matter. I've met a few Docs lately that have lived here a long time but have very poor communication skills and indeed seem less able than myself and google to make sound medical judgements - makes me wonder if a lot of docs aren't simply good at learning facts parrot fashion, rather than be of particularly intelligent fabric.

Tis abou time we all learned to see beyond the obvious. I know cabbies that used to be stock brokers, and a porter thats a tellented poet.

The House price crashometer finally hit 5 today. The 70% team have concluded that the second leg of the house price crash has arrived.

When did the 70% club become the 70% team then? Did I miss something? Do you turn out against AFC Wimbledon reserves on a Sunday afternoon?
