kwh, units confusing just trying to work out a new freezer cost please
Options
Im a little confused with the units and kwh,,all im trying to do is work out this price roughly of a new extra under counter freezer im looking at
its says in consumes 199 kwh per year,, my electricity cost is 13.288 and 7.775
let me see if ive got this right, lets just assume the first 13.288 per kilowatt,am i just right in going 13.288x199=£26.44 per year?
its just that seems cheap to run a freezer for a year
any help will be very much appreciated

That is correct!
Your sums allow for the worst case scenario - i.e. your freezer using only the primary units as you haven't used any other electricity. Although, in reality of course, you already use the primary units (I expect!) so the "additional" cost of running the freezer is arguably only £15.47 (199 x 7.775p).0 -
An electricity unit is a kWh.
The more realistic figure to use is 7.775p(tier 2) for a freezer.
The 13.2889(tier 1) is only for the first few units; which you will use anyway.0 -
Would you look at that. 2 answers saying the same, posted at the same time0

LOL! Nice one0

As already mentioned twice simultaneously the cost of running any item should be based on just the lower tier 2 price. The extra in the tier 1 price can be thought of as a monthly standing charge. In your case, (tier 1 - tier 2) * 900 = £49.61 pa or £4.13 per month.0

thanks so much for that to everyone,i felt a bit dumb posting the question lol ..thats very cheap i always thought freezers cost more to the £100 a year to run!

Old freezers can be very inefficient if their door seals are broken or the thermostats are stuck (on), but a modern appliance is much more efficient - as they have to be nowadays!
No such thing as a stupid questionYou were right in your assumptions / sums anyway

i get that,so in affect i could transfer the £49.61 onto my online account and assume thats paid for.and work out future appliances on the tier 2.
makes sense to me lolDony worry,be happy...0
