i get that,so in affect i could transfer the £49.61 onto my online account and assume thats paid for.and work out future appliances on the tier 2.
makes sense to me lol
Exactly.
Some years ago all tariffs charged a daily standing charge; and some still do.
The Tier1/Tier2 tariff system is just another way of collecting the same standing charge.
For the vast majority of people it works out exactly the same. The only people who gain by the tier system are those who use very little gas or electricty in a billing period e.g. a holiday home.0 -
Surely a freezer spec doesn't quote an annual consumption, because wouldn't that depend on variables such as ambient temperature, how full it is, how often you open the door etc?
Wouldn't it just quote the wattage, or hourly consumption based on running on 'full power' for that hour?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

But that would be even more wildly unhelpful and variable! A powerful, rapidly responding efficient motor with deep insulation would appear to be more expensive than a less powerful motor with rubbishy insulation!0 -
So how is it normally quoted?-I have no idea, I haven't bought a new freezer in ten years now.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

No, new fridges & freezers do indeed give annual consumption figures. They are based on "average" conditions - i..e ambient temps etc, whatever they are!
No doubt similar to a car's quoted 'average' fuel consumption then...i.e no relation to reality. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I have a large freezer in a garage that gets very cold in winter and very warm in summer.
Monitoring consumption over a week at a time with a power meter, I have been surprised how little variation there is in consumption between mid-winter and mid-summer.0
