For towels/bedding/hubby's smelly stuff i use M&S bio tablets ( 46p for a box of 30 - they were on offer)

For my stuff and my little girls stuff i use surf small and mighty liquid - it was on offer

Fabric conditioner is Lenor, the purple or yellow one they were on offer, 25p for 750ml.

Is anyone seeing a pattern to my purchasing of laundry stuff:rotfl:

I was just reading through this post and noticed some of you use vinegar? What does this do in the wash load? I think it dissolves any soap residue and then softens the fabric. It's particularly good for towels as fab cond inhibits the absorbancy.
Is it as an alternative to normal fabric softener? Yes, it is.
Does it leave a vinegary smell on your clothes when you take them out of the wash? Yes, it does but the odour vanishes once the clothes are dry.
Does it damage the fabrics? Nope.

Sorry for so many questions but I am a bit of an over user of the old fabric softener (I like my clothes to smell) but I'm looking to be more mse with my washing:o

Also apart from the smell and the softening do you peeps think there is very much difference in results between a wash with and a wash without softener?

Some people think that conditioner/softener makes some fabrics easier to iron although I haven't found that myself. I think you might find softener a bit difficult to give up if you're hooked on having scented clothes. I'm not really much of a fan

Is it worth paying more money for the brand name washing powders? I used to use the tesco value bio powder which did its job, but they changed the formula and it brought my husband out in a skin allergy. changed to the next cheapest which was a non bio liquid, and even though its fine on my husbands skin, it doesn't seem to be washing very well at all.The tesco colour liquid also brought my husband out in a terrible rash and swelling all over, and so i had to re wash everthing in the wardrobes!

My question is:I need a biological powder to get the clothes clean, I know from reading on here that it shouldn't be the bio/enzme bit that causes allergys,so, is it worth paying out for ariel or persil as they would have tested the products thoroughly for skin sensitivity, of should i just trial the other supermarket brands.:rotfl:
all help in the spirit of mse greatly appreciated. only approx 10p wash using supermarket (non value) brand compared to 27p on big brand.

shops near me - tesco, sainsbury, lidl, wilkinson!

May I ask you when they changed the formula please?

I've never even noticed a difference in terms of softening! I don't actually like using fabric softener, it doesn't seem to me to make any difference, plus I don't use scented products in the main as they can bring me out in a rash and I don't like smelling of 10000000000 different perfumes.

Unfortunately I have to use Fairy as both my kids have eczema and react to anything else. i have tried every other sensitive one available, and can't find anything that suits. i resent paying the extra, so try to get it when it is on offer. I buy a dirt cheap bio one for hubby's GYM/ FOOTBALL STUFF AND FOR OTHER BITS THAT (oops caps lock!) don't come in direct contact with the kids' skin. If anyone has come across a good sensitive one in the last couple of years, what is it? I haven't tried anything new recently cos i don't like wasting money on it if I end up not being able to use it.

Amazing the amount of people with skin allergies. I use whatever is cheapest really. We went to Tesco last night and they were doing the massive bottles of Persil Small and mighty on a 3 for 2 so we ended up getting 3 of those that will last for ages.

i only use persil non bio - as any thing else i have tried affects my skin - while it may be expensive compared to other brands at least i will not be spending a fortune on hydrocortizone and chucking half the pack away!! as far as my experience goes persil works for me, and saving money on a cheaper brand does not seem to be cost effective.

    I use ecoleaf laundry liquid

Well worth trying if you have allergies/sensitive skin.

I use M&S bio or non-bio liquid, we have sensitive skin and we've never had any trouble with it. I stock up when it's on special offer, it's often on bogof. I got a few bottles last week as it was half price on all laundry products.
