How long for DLA to be processed ?

hi, Just wondering if anyone could give me a rough guide as to how long it normally takes for dla to process the forms.
I sent mine in 3 weeks ago and have heard nothing, i phoned them this morning and they said the details haven't been put on the system yet which may suggest they have not received them, but she also said it can take a couple of weeks to upload them.
Luckily i did photo copy all the forms before i sent them but not sure if i should send them again or if i do that will it complicate things, i'm just very aware that if they are lost then i am losing 3 weeks payments if i am awarded them..
any advise on what to do if anyone has had the same problem would be fab, thanks

Hi niamhtra66, did you send the form by registered post? When you phoned them this morning did you ask if they'd received them because they usually send a letter saying they have received your forms and are being processed. You need to find out whether they have received them or not but DO NOT send them again unless they inform you that they haven't received them. Your award will be from the date you requested the form.

When they send out an acknowledgement of the form it states at bottom of the letter that if you do not hear anything in 8 weeks you can phone and enquire. My last renewal took just under 8 weeks - I received a letter after 3 weeks saying they hadn't yet made a decision and had sent to the GP for a report.

If they send for any reports from your GP, consultants etc the timescale can vary depending on how long these people take to send the information and then how long they take to make a decision after.
  • Thanks TOBRUK, i didn't send them registered just got proof of postage.
She didn't say either way if they had not been received or if it just hadn't been put on the system, i think she was in training as there was a man talking to her telling her what to say.
she suggested i download the forms again and refill them and send them in again which would be a real pain in the bottom!
Unfortunately i didn't request the forms from them i downloaded them as my sons carer suggested i would only have a short time to fill them in if they sent them out The girl i spoke to today said to send in a covering letter and a copy of proof of posting with the forms but i'm very wary of confusing matters by sending them all in again.
  • I applied online on 01/02/10, received a letter dated 09/02/10 saying they'd received the application and then called them today to change the bank details and there's still nothing on the system. In the past I've usually heard 3-4 weeks from the application going in.

Really kicking myself this time as my DS has been getting DLA for 9 years and I forgot to post the renewal claim form so have had to submit a full new claim grrr.

Why on earth would she ask you to fill them out again - they should be able to tell you whether they have received your forms or not! I would call them back and ask - hopefully speak to someone who knows what they are doing!

I don't understand what you mean by only having a short time to fill them in if they sent them out?

OP says that they have photocopied their forms.... Who that advice is aimed at I have no idea.
  • My friend's DLA renewal took just under twelve weeks.

I think that when the Op mentions a short time to fill in the forms, they might be referring to the fact that you have a set date to return the forms by - but this is six weeks after receiving them.

I wouldn't worry as it has only been three weeks - perhaps a phone call after eight weeks, as Tobruk suggests.

I sumitted my renewal online on 16.01.10, and i got the award letter on 12.02.10. I was very pleased with the speed of service.
