Im clueless at this - PLEASE help!

Hi ya,

Just wanted to hopefully tap into all you knowlegable phone bods out there!

First off - I have an Iphone (along with everyone else) and I've had it almost 18month and the contract I have with 02 runs out on April 1st. It has been really expensive and to be honest I havent had that much out of it as I cant seem to upgrade the versions of itunes or anything so Im not getting full usage of it. SO I was thinking of downgrading.

I know my boyfriend would love an xbox 360 as all his mates play fif 10 on it and I have always seen ads in the paper and stuff offering them free with your contracts? I dont understand how they works so I was wondering if someone could help explain this to me?

Also - would I be able to do this and when? Could I keep my number that I already have?

LASTLY - what do I do with my Iphone handset afterwards? Would i be able to gift it to friends and them be able to use it or would I have to phaff about with unblocking etc.

Sorry if that is rambling but Im really useless at this sort of stuff. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Ta

Mel

    Hi Mel

Regarding the Xbox and all other gifts, what happens is you take out the contract say for 18mths at £35 you get the phone advertised and the Xbox however it works out more expensive in the long term.
I have done it in the past, and have had a PS3 and Xbox from these. In your situation though what i would do is sell your Iphone and from the proceeds buy an Xbox.
You can then negotiate a better contract on your new phone, so for example if you aren't too worried about the latest phone maybe your monthly costs will drop etc.
If you want to keep your existing number you have 2 options either you Port your number to another network ie O2 to Orange or you continue with your current provider and do what they call upgrade ie renegotiate a new contract
Hope this answers some of your questions.

And when working out these deals, which are rarely great, and never get you a console free, just work out how much it'll cost in total for the whole contract. So for the example above that's 18x£35= £630 (before any calls etc are added). You can get an XBox Arcade from Argos for £99, or even £160 for the HDD equipped one, so £630 doesn't look so great does it?
  • There's no such thing as a free lunch :)
  • While the above comments are undeniable remember that the OP said she hadn't a clue and in that situation a free xboz ain't a bad way to go. Yes you shop around and get a better deal - but the best are cashback which ain't for a novice.

Basically all of these deals use the subsidy they get for signing you up yo sweeten the deal. Just don't be blinded by the freebies - make sure its the deal for you. You need to decide what you need Iphones or other Top of the range handsets cost £400+ new A simple phone with good music might cost £120

    So
1 decide what you need in a mobile phone features, Minutes, text, internet
2 see what is the best deal

Even old iphones are worth a few bob so sell it if you really don't want to continue using it
