Cold calling

Comments

  • Just had a call from someone calling “on behalf” of Talk Talk (my ISP).
Are you from Talk Talk I asked several times
Yes I was told, I’m calling on behalf of Talk Talk.
I ignored this and let them go on.
I was asked to give security details before the conversation could go any further. When I suggested that it was him who should give the details as I didn’t know who he has – he hung up.
    It works most times

I've started to put the phone down now if there is a gap followed by a strong Indian accent on the other end, which unfortunately could be deemed to be racist. However, my number is definitely circulating their phone centre sales!

When they call you,ask them to 'supress' your number,if they then repeatedly call you after that, then they are breaking some regulation (sorry, cant remember which one,I was told this on my induction course) which can be proven by the recorded call.

My street and the four around me were in the pilot for this stop cold calling scheme. It cuts it down drastically to have the sticker on your door. We also got cards so that the cheeky blighters that still knocked could just be handed one and the door closed on them.

I'd recommend anyone putting the stickers on their door.

I hate door sales, if I want a conservatory, kitchen or window I'll search out what I'm looking for myself. I have a line I use on the ones selling doors and windows though, I usually just say I already have a door and wondows, by the time they realisee what I said, the door is shut. Same with kitchens, gives you a little sense of satisfaction that you threw them a bit.

Think the OP's on about telephone cold callers tho.
  • Since Ive moved house and left BT and gone with Virgin for the telephone (totally new area and phone number) Ive not received any cold callers as in real people trying to flog me stuff but I keep getting automated calls with a recorded voice telling me about claiming back money and debt management. No real person talking, just a recorded automated voice. What can be done about things like that? Im about to sign up for TPS (and MPS) but would TPS stop that kind of thing?

I've had two 'crime awareness' surveys in the last two days. First time I asked for the name of the organisation then the phone went dead, second time I asked for a phone number to ring back 'don't know, outgoing calls only', then the name of organisation, dead again! They have obviously got this of to a tee to circumvent the TPS

Wrote to TPS on these tactics no reply from them either!

The trick is to seem like you are actually interested in their product and want to buy it and then ask for their website so that you can check more details about it.

Once you have the website you then have enough details to log a complaint about the company with the TPS and with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
