  • we have a wood burner and our chimney runs through the middle of our house. the bricks of the chimney get warm and stay warm for hours emitting extra heat. added bonus as one runs through the bedroom :) enjoy your free heat.

If it's just heat, enjoy it but in case the neighbour hasn't lined the chimney properly, I would get a carbon monoxide alarm to test the air in the bedroom. You don't want to be breathing in his fumes!
  • I too would be very concerned about carbon monoxide.

    No smell, silent killer :(

I don't think people are allowed to just fit logburners without some kind of approval. but not sure.
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Indeed, if you are not a 'competent person' e.g HETAS qualified then you need building regs approval.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.
  • thats ok then i was worried about fire risk!! doh!

Fire risk? Your neighbour's bedroom would have to a blazing inferno before heat conduction through the brick wall between your houses was hot enough to ignite anything in your bedroom!

Life's too short for worrying! Check it out - it probably will be alright - and then relax.

yes i think it is, but us women dont understand these things ;) i felt heat & panicked :rotfl: hubby said there was nothing to worry about! many thanks for all your replyies.

Easy to panic when the thought first occurs to you. This one still makes me giggle - took us months to figure out why my stepdaughter's bedroom was so cold in winter the other year - all became clear when she explained she'd turned the radiator off becuase she didn't want the curtains to catch fire when it got hot. :rotfl:
  • You guys make me laugh. Free heat sounds nice, and I wish I could have generous neighbors like yours.
