It Saved Maggie but is it about to save Gordy?

The Faulkland Islands that is. I have a sneaky suspicion Gordy is going to allow things to escalate in the south atlantic so that he can declare the state in War and put off the election whilst he hopes to gain public support for winning a war. Just my thoughts.

I think times have changed and the public will no longer get behind a war just because it's 'us vs them'. The public want justification and a real cause. Just my opinion though, I might be wrong.0

I would be suprised if the UK public didn't find aggression from an external state on one of our soverign islands as justification. I know that if there is any aggression I would expect us to defend ourselves. We have 1000 men and 4 Eurofighters plus Rapier squadrens and naval vessels down there. They are expecting something by the looks of it.0 -

That and the fact that fighting three wars at the same time would really over-stretching the armed forces, possibly to breaking point. I still think there's space for a diplomatic solution over this one. I hope that even Gordo wouldn't be that dumb. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? We no longer have many troops in Iraq and it would be the perfect excuse for us to reduce our numbers in Afghanistan without upsetting our so called friends the Americans.0

I am trying to picture the south atlantic.
It is the opposite of north.
Is there something going on there I should be aware off?Retail is the only therapy that works0 -

You should have a read of the first paragraph of this...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_air_forces_in_the_Falklands_War#Background
Militarily Argentina are a weaker country today with lots of assets losts in the conflict not replaced.
The idea of a military campaign is ridiclous. This is all political, which will result is some form of shared rights to natural resources by both countries0 -
bizarre
I know that loads of people here think the GB manipulated the entire worlds bankers into the current abyss and corrupted all the financial regulators in the entire world into missing the signs of a financial meltdown and also tricked them into thinking that financial stimulus is the way forward but to think too that he is going to trick argentina into launching an attack on the islands before the UK election....
amazing, what absolutely brilliant man
and there I was determined not to vote for him... but now ......0 -
The problem I have with going to war, other than the obvious one (ie I hate the loss of life), is that this is essentially an economic issue. The Falkland Islands are not near anywhere, other than Argentina, and a war with Argentina alongside embargoes possibly placed upon us by their neighbours if we are seen as an aggressor will not help the logistics.
A pipeline to the nearest major economy must surely help with both the shipping and refining of the 60bn+ barrels. Getting it off of a set of islands with a fragile ecosystem will be a necessary PITA otherwise.
For that reason, I can foresee a settlement where the Falklands retain sovereignty while Argentina gets an economic kickback of some sort. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
