Maggie had a Royal Navy equipt to do the job...

    We haven't got that now...

Government fault by ripping the armed forces apart. Reap what you sow and all that.

Military is number 1 asset as far as I 'm concerned. Nukes ect.

After the Falklands War there was a consensus that more aircraft carriers were needed.

    Then the consensus was shelved........

No Junta in Argentina now, democratic government in place, little appetite for war among the Argentinian people I would guess.

The oil in the Falklands will be very welcome and could get Mr Brown some revenues that the Government coffers so sorely need.

We have two on order I thought - big ones as well - this is why the other forces are upset asthe Navy are doing nicely out of this!

The situation is a lot different now - Argentina invaded as it looked like our comitment was weak (we only had token personel there). We now have quite a sizeable force based there, so it's unlikely they would use force, but I agree some sort of negotiations are probably already underway to share revenues...

If it keeps this fantasy island of House Price Inflation going Gordon will invade Russia, America and Mars if he thinks he could get away with it.

Luckily we can all see through the !!!!!!!! that has been happening in the last 12 months, well most of us outside of Aberdeen can.

Tosh. The new carriers will be vastly more capable than the ones being decommissioned, not a straight swap at all.

Shame about the lack of nuclear propulsion though.
