Is it still possible to get dial up?

Hi,

My Dad runs his own business and has just received a notice from HMRC telling him that he has to file his VAT notices and PAYE notices online from April 2010. My Dad does not have access to the internet at work. He has only had a computer at work for the last 2/3 years. Prior to that his secretary used a typewriter!!

What is the best and cheapest way for him to access the internet? It will literally only be used to file HMRC's notices. So VAT will be four times a year and PAYE once a month. We don't think it is worth getting broadband for this low level of usage. Are we right? If so, can we still get dial up? Who is the best provider? He has Sky broadband at home. Can he access dial up through them, at no additional cost (except the call costs)? He has two phone lines at work, so using one for dial up would not be a problem.

He doesn't really want to have to do his VAT and PAYE at home, as he would then be doing his secretaries job for her!!

Thanks for your help,

PP

I would think a pay as you go dongle would be as good

    Something like this
    http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/8561745/Vodafone-USB-Pre-Pay-Broadband-Dongle/Product.html?source=9593

This has £15 of credit in the price.
And I think ( not sure ) that the credit does not run out on a specific date ..one month , six months, use it or lose it, kind of thing.
It may worth seeing if any one else knows any other dongle deals ..There always seems to be an offer on .

I think Virgin still do dial up, but remember he will need a modem to be able to dial unless he uses a dongle as suggested.

You say he has broadband at home, then there is no reason for him to have access at work, all he needs to do is to have the appropriate figures etc with him, he can then access HMRC from home, access does NOT have to be from his business premises. He will be given codes/passwords/pin etc.

Any PAYG dial up service will do the job, find it hard to believe that a business can't benefit from broadband internet access though, so worth looking at options such as Plusnet Value which is only £5.99 on a Market 3 exchange.

With the figures to hand this can be done from a public library.

Any halfway decent accountant would be doing this for him already. Mine does and they only charge £60 + VAT a month to do everything - all I do is post them my various invoices.
