Costs of IVF?

I had a tubal ligation a few years ago & now regret it.

Am trying to work out whats best IVF or a possible reversal.

Can anyone advise on the costs and how long it takes to go through IVF before reaching the implantation stage?

Thanks :)

  • I'm looking into IVF at the moment. I looked at my nearest hospital with a fertility unit (via Google) and they had all the info on there about timings and costs.

It looked around £3500-£4000 per cycle for IVF and a bit more for ICSI.

We paid £3800 for one cycle of ICSI in 2007. From starting the drugs on the first day of my cycle to implantation stage was about 6 weeks.

  • Wow 6 weeks is really quick. Not sure what length of time I was expecting :)
  • I have gone through 3 lots of IVF at approx £3500 per treatment and £500 for drugs each time. From start to end my cycle lasted about 5 weeks.

Take a look at Care http://www.carefertility.com/

I for one, very lucky mummy, can certainly vouch for them.

  • Do hospitals offer treatment on finance?
  • Have you looked into the possibility of having the tubal ligation reversed? I realise that surgery of this nature isn't necessarily a trivial procedure but it might be less expensive that IVF. If you have a chat with your GP they might be able to give you an idea of the length of the waiting-list for NHS treatment and a vague idea of the cost of going privately

My PCT does not pay for reversals on the NHS, I would have to go private. Also, the success is dependent upon how the operation was done in the first place & how long it's been since the inital tubal ligation op.

I certainly will check costs tho' as it is always another option.

I have never heard of treatments on finance tbh.
We have had 6 cycles (4 IVF and 2 FET) Our treatment is approx £5000 a time now but we have extra meds due to blood clotting issues.
The timing does all depend on a few seperate circumstances but i'd say 6 weeks isn't a bad estimate.
Be prepared for it to be quite an intense time, with scans and clinic visits on a regular basis.
What clinic are you looking at if you wish to answer of course.

I cant believe how expensive IVF is i cant believe you dont get more help on the NHS. I think it appauling in this day and age and you can bet the relative cost isnt a fraction of what they actually charge.
