Dog hit by car

Just as well it wasn't a child.0

If memory serves, hitting a domestic animal requires reporting to the police. That would include dogs, horses, cattle, sheep etc. However, cats weren't classed as domesticated (as anyone who has ever been owned by one will attest) therefore, they are regarded as the same as rabbits, deer, wildcat, etc.
Probably best to report to the police within 24 hours as it is legally required, but other than that, nothing further is required from a legal standpoint.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

I just hope to God this poor dog is alright, let us know if you can.
That brings back memories.
I was travelling up hill past the village church, doing 30 or so there was dog facing away from me on the nearside pavement. Almost as I was alongside it the dog shot diagonally accross the front of the car, couldnt miss it but didn't hit it with the wheels. It was an average size dog, sheepdog type thing. It smacked the front valance and destroyed that, lifted the front of the car and then the back as it hit the rear axle or exhaust.
The car was a right mess, but the dog was ok, not a scratch, sat there licking my hand.
I was annoyed, very annoyed, not just at the damage but the fact that someone had left this animal loose by the road. I wan't a stray obviously and had a collar and tags. All prepared to take it home and give the owner a right rollicking so I inspected the tag.
It was only the vicars dog, and here I was outside his chuch with him conducting the Sunday service:eek:
I calmed down, the dog must have had a little:AI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Good point, OP would now be looking at a stretch in prison.0

Wish someone would run over my neighbour's dog. They don't take it for walks, just let it run around the estate. Would be their fault if it got run over IMO.0

I wouldn't bother reporting it to the Police. They should have much better things to do. There's no further action to take, no crime reported, no insurance claim. I reported a large deer i hit once as it was obstructing a dual carriageway and my insurers also told me I should report it. When I went into the nick, I got tutted and sighed at and they didn't want to take any details.
Technically this may be wrong, but I know what I'd do if it were to happen again...forgettabartit.0 -
What is wrong with you? That is someones pet and unless you have your neighbours under 24 hour surveillance how do you know they dont walk the dog? If you have real concerns about the animal call the RSPCA instead of making ridiculous statements like that.
Animal activist alert:eek::eek::eek:, save the children, sod the animals.
That may seem harsh but when I see collectors in the supermarket etc, guess where my money goes. It infuriates me that anyone can put animal charities above human needs.
Yes off topic and prepared to be shot down but posts like this strike a nerve with me:mad:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

No they wouldn't! You dont go to prison if a pedestrian runs out into the road and the accident was in no way your fault.
Like I said, I'm not very sure but I remember a story of a ped practically jumping in front of a car but the driver was held liable for reasons that escape me!0 -
No they wouldn't! You dont go to prison if a pedestrian runs out into the road and the accident was in no way your fault. Especially if the pedestrian escapes with a limp and a bloody nose. The OP was doing about 5mph it's not like they were tearing about irresponsibly in a residential area.
Try it and prove me wrong ?0
