Car Hire Excess Insurance post-rental

I've just picked up a hire car and didn't want to pay the 12 pounds per day to reduce the 550 pound excess to 0.

I'd like to get some (cheaper) rental insurance to cover myself whilst I have the hire car but all the sites I go to say you cannot get a policy if you already have the hire car.

Does anyone know of any companies that would insure me now that I have the car, or do I just park carefully and hope for the best!

Thanks in advance.

That would be like trying to buy holiday insurnace after you have gone on holiday. Doubt anyone would offer such an insurance. Depending on how long the hire period is depends on how much you have risked. If it 46 days you've saved money anything less and you hit someone or the car gets damaged while parked etc and you have lost.
