Young High Earners

How much you earn is irrelivant, how you got there only you'll know and only you and your parents will care.
Its what you do with your money that counts.Always ask ACAS0 -
Thanks for those who have provided useful answers. I'm not so interested in those who are questioning my motive or rationale but thanks all the same.
Just simply interested - could I have picked a more lucrative industry, could I have achieved some additional qualifications, should I have taken on resposibility in terms of staff management by now, have I been too slow to go for promotions etc?
For example these are rumours, which I want some confirmation on, but I can't very well ask them; I went to uni, but know of those earning lots more who didn't. I know of people in the same company, of similar age and experience but in different departments who earn lots more, I know of people younger than me with people reporting to them - is this rare or could I be in this position by now etc etc0 -
Depends where you live!
£35k for a London salary at that age isn't that high at all, but for outside of London would be pretty good, and in some areas a miracle!
And 27 isn't that young - you've had 11 whole years from school leaving age...
Personally I'm thinking of taking a pay cut for more job satisfaction, as money isn't everything.
I have done the same ... and there is nothing that puts me off a person more than one who measures success/ happiness in financial terms!
Gone ... or have I?0 -
Sorry I think this is coming across all wrong.
Money isn't everything, I don't see myself as better or worse than anyone who earns less/more, it's not my number one ambition, I don't wish to brag or seek congratulations etc.
But if I'm going to go to work, then yes I want to enjoy it, but one of the main reasons to go to work is to earn, and you may as well earn what you can while you can? At the end of the day money does help you achieve many of your other goals in life, or at least make them easier?
I'd just like to know how I could have got ahead quicker, or if relative to my potential I've under-perfomed.
Hi Leeds_Lad, what do you do?
I'm unemployed and 24 so i find your 35k a year amazing. I would settle for £12k right now!Trying to spread calmness, understanding and optimism on MSE

OMG - I've never said that money is everything, nor that it's my main aim in life. Not sure why people are getting so defensive.
All I've asked is if there's anyone out there who's managed to bag a high paying job at a young age?
What's wrong with having a good job and getting paid well?0 -

Personally I am 22 and earning 22k - outwith london and being paid to be put through all my studies. I work strictly 9-5 35 hour week and have an easy life. I could earn more elsewhere no doubt but I doubt I would be as happy in my working life or receiving as much support.
And what do you do? I'm interested in what people do and if they are happy.Trying to spread calmness, understanding and optimism on MSE

Hi Santa - I work in finance and have a degree. Sorry to hear you are out of work - I've luckily been unaffected by the recession. I hope you don't think I'm trying to rub peoples faces in it. I've worked 70 hour weeks for £3 an hour many a time so I know all about lower paid jobs too.0

Answers: Yes and Nothing, but there is so much more to life. Next question?Gone ... or have I?0 -
I am afraid it does come off as bragging, and on a money saving board where a lot of members are on here due to debts and problems, it just does not sound very right.
I am 30 and take home more than yourself and i am tax free, but this involves being away from my family for 6 months a year, i am seriously considering moving home and taking any job i can get, be it driving delivery vans or bar work, at least i will be with my 5 weeks old daughter every night when she goes to sleep(albeit for only 3 hours at a time), and not having to see her growing up on the webcam.0 -
absolutely nothing wrong in wanting to earn more but its just a bit self congratulatory. Your not stupid as you went to university yet you're asking all these questions about do people earn more......
well in law of statistics there will be people who earn more and are younger than you and who have a greater potential to earn more
there will also be people who are older than you who earn less and will never earn the amount you are earning now
I really don't get why you are that bothered about other peoples earnings, as I said its not what you earn but what you do with it and whilst you can enjoy it please bear in mind that things can change at a blink of an eye so maybe get some good Karma going and give something back (if you don't already) to other peopleAlways ask ACAS0
