Yes, Open Office can save in many formats, including doc, docx, pdf, etc.

<Edit> I see that .odg is a Draw file, so it could be exported from Open Office in many bitmap or vector formats.

Agreed. Though you could avoid installing it on your PC by running the portable version from a flash drive:

    You could try http://libwpg.sourceforge.net/perfectspot.htm

NB drawings will not be saved in doc/docx - see my comment re: exporting above.

Export as PDF might be another option.

Not a problem , I could run Open Office alongside MS O ffice at home , masses of h/d space but other staff might ( bunch of luddites) resist adding other prog to their house computers.

So to get it correct , Open Office can cope with all of MS office
But Ms Office fails with some part of Open Office.

    Yes could work with them.

To a greater or lesser degree, yes - some formats may not be perfectly formatted in the transition between file formats.

Even older versions of MS Office can't necessarily read documents created by newer ones, without 'tweaks'.

No, export as one of the bitmap formats, 'Save As' only includes other vector formats
