You will definately get more for it selling it on Ebay than just getting your local scrappy to take it away. I don't really see what hastle is involved in putting an advert on the internet - should take no more than 10mins. If you're completely honest in your description it's likely most people will bid blind.

We've sold allsorts of rubbish, it's amazing what people will pay good money for.

Like a 16 year old car that doesn't start, needs other work, has no MOT, and other possible negative points that may or may not exist?

    Doubt it....would you buy it!?

OP, follow VIKINGAEROS advice, if you can get a scrappy to give you £120 for it, plus claim back any road tax, you're laughing.

Agreed, eBay has it's fair share of time wasters, some, I wouldn't want on my drive way, far better off scrapping it and getting a certificate of destruction.

That is the end of it for the OP that way.

    Exactly!

No having to fix it and get it running...

No need to write an advert....

No need to field numerous phone calls, or stay in to meet "viewers" who fail to appear....

No need to report a non paying winner....

And no comeback from a buyer who phones you a week later to complain something aint working and can he have his money back!

Why give yourself the hassle? ;)

Sorry, I didn't realise the OP was asking for the least hastle way of getting rid of the car, I mistakenly thought he asked how to maximise the sale price.

    Hang on a second . . .

Therefore I have decided to sell it, but am unsure of the best way - in order to get the most I can for it.

This is Money Saving Expert isn't it, not Hastle Saving Expert. ;)

He will get more money for it selling it on Ebay. There's already one person out there prepared to pay £120 and he's only asked 1 person, ask a million others and there will be someone who'll pay more than £120. People buy cars such as this for all sorts of reasons . . .

Here's one and she's actually on this site today

There's plenty of others out there in Ebay Land.

I'd rather get definite scrap money from a scappy than put it on ebay, not get any bids/ not sell, THEN go to scrappy a week or so later.

You seem very sure this car that doesn't start will sell on ebay for a decent amount, i dont.

I buy bangers all the time.

This car as it stands is worthless, other than for scrap.

    ps its hassle, not hastle.

This one has no MOT or Tax, is not running and has 4 days left of bidding - a 1997 Corsa (same age as the OP's), current price £201

This one is a 1995 with 135,000 miles, a broken handbrake and the head gasket has gone. Currently at £150 with an hour left.

    I guess it's not worthless.

The first one IS running AND is newer.

The second one is also running AND has six months MOT.

    GET REAL.

I was trying to help the OP, have done my best.

You have the last word if you want to, it's obviously really important to you. :D

As was I, hence my comments. He asked how to get best value and you provided him with the easiest way to sell, two completely different things.

JQ, am quite happy to be proved wrong, and for OP's pocket i hope i wll be.

Im not a novice with bangers, i just dont think anyone on ebay will pay £200 ish for this.

Crucial factor is it doesnt start, and OP appears not to know how to fix this.

    OP's decision now.

All the best, take care man.

The problem, from a private buyer's perspective, is that loads of people sell cars with a list of problems and say "easy fix". I always end up thinking "well, if it's an easy fix you fix it and then sell it."

Having said that, I would buy a car that had no MOT if I could see for myself what needed doing and believed it was worth it.
    Happy chappy
