Speed Cameras
Options
I was just driving back from a night out and it took 2 hrs instead of 20 minutes, so bored my mind started to wonder - Do speed cameras work in the snow?
The most obvious answer would be no because the lines on the road are covered, i would also think that the lens would be steamed up.
Do they?

I don't think they'd need to work, if the road was completely obscured with snow then there wouldn't be that many driving over the speed limit. Also, I'd doubt they fog up, or else they'd pretty useless in the rain as well.0

The lines in the snow are just for drivers to see the distance the camera will cover so it doesn't matter if the lines are clear or not?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

The lines are actually there to provide a secondary speed check to confirm the "evidence" of the camera & are a measured distance apart.
How things stand if they're covered by snow I don't know.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
I doubt snow would make a difference. If the lines aren't visible, just superimpose an older photograph to compare. Since the camera framing wouldn't have been changed I can't see a magistrate throwing it out.0

You may well be right, like I said, I've no idea what the law is in these circumstances.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
Do you really want to break the speed limit in the snow though? Stopping distances, control, and all that.0

This is correct. They can still convict on the evidence of the camera alone."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0
