Before i open a bluetooth USB adapter from PC World....

I already had one (a couple quid special off of eBay).
I'm having issues with my car headunit, so i figured i'd try update the firmware.
I can pair the laptop with the headunit using the cheapy USB bluetooth adapter, that's not "the" problem
The problem comes when i try and "send" the update file to the headunit ......... the program says that "no bluetooth device detected". How is that possible when it pairs, therefore it is working.
No installation CD came with the device, so i was using a downloaded version of BlueSoliel.
So today i buy a USB bluetooth adapter for FIFTEEN quid from PC World. So i'm a bit reluctant to open it if it's not going to work, but i'll not know unless i open it.
SO ...... if i open it, and it wont let me send the file to my headunit, question is, will i be able to take the bluetooth USB adapter back at all for a refund? Or not, as it'll have been opened, and used (once)?

Opened or not, unless it is faulty, you have no automatic rights to a refund anyway.0

They will probably let you return it within 7 days as long as you dont take the !!!! - but you have no consumer rights to do this.
Are you sure you can send the file via Bluetooth? I would of thought you'd have to do it via USB (any Bluetooth HU 99% of the time has a USB port).Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

I've the Alpine CDE-103BT unit & it says the update is via bluetooth
It has a USB port on the front, but the update states bluetooth
On a car forum i'm on a guy said he could only update his unit (not the Alpine one, it was another one) with Windows XP. I was running Vista when i tried the update. Can't see what difference that'd make.
So either way, i'm going to be pretty much stuck with this expensive stick whether it works (good) or not (bad, obviously) lol. Gutted.
Thanks guys0 -
tried running the program under compatibility mode for XP?
no idea if it will work though0 -
Could you not it via usb, you could just ask pc world if you can return the opened item if it doesn't work0

Vista home i think. It's not my laptop you see. I think it's Home Basic.
The other has Win XP Home.0 -
The PCWorld where I live DO NOT give refunds if you change your mind. My OH took something back £20 value because it was not compatible with his computer after being told that it was. Shop assistant denied saying he would take it back if it was not compatible. This was 6 years ago and OH has never set foot in that store since.
He did eventually get a refund after emailing the chairman of PCWorld.

You know, i've never paid attention to that at all as i figured all would work. Are you referring to page 2?neither of those versions are on the compatibility list PDF
this could be your issue
I don't have a WinXP Pro SP2 machine. I have WinXP Pro SP3, but that's on my PC & i can't exactly get my car in the bedroom.
I wonder if SP3 would work. I can't see why it makes a difference. What's so special about Pro & Home. Grr.
EDIT: Just had an idea ........ perhaps i could install WinXP Pro SP3 (or even SP2 if i can find the CD) on the Vista machine by using Virtual PC.0
