Septic Tank or Mains sewage

Septic Tank or Mains sewage

We are in the process of buying a bungalow and as yet haven't asked if it is Septic Tank or Mains sewage. Is there any way to get this information
on line?

I know I can ask during the week but I am anxious to know asap.

Thanks

Not unless the property has a HIP pack that you can access online. Find out by asking the estate agent (some open Sundays) or looking at the property information sheet if you have one. The agents website might also have a link.

Wow! Thanks for that speedy reply.

No property information sheet and no HIP pack as buying property private sale
therefore does not need a HIP her solicitor says.

I am just being anxious because this is one thing I forgot to find out about
and would really like to know before tomorrow.

I thought there might be a somewhere on line I could put the postcode
in and find out but obviously I must be patient.

  • What you could try is calling the water company for the area the property is in and asking how it is billed.
They can tell you if they bill, Nothing in the data protection act against asking a company if they supply the area and if they don't then they might be able to offer some advice of what to do

  • Thanks GothicFairy, I will try that tomorrow moning! :)
  • You could also try typing the postcode into say the Anglian website and seeing if it comes up with anything..

Try it as though you were a new customer ...It might give you a clue

Indeed, it is often better to ask nicely as they are more inclined to help, being rude just gets peoples backs up.

Since it's a private sale, why not just ring up the owners and ask them?
Why all the subterfuge?-it's a perfectly reasonable question to ask.
Or if the property is vacant, go round there and look for a septic tank access hatch.

Always do, then ring a couple more times to see if I get the same story
from different staff or extra information.

    Thanks Macman! :D
Owner has been away for several days but hooray - returned today, earlier than expected,
and answered our query. Yes bungalow is on mains sewage!
    Thanks all for helpful advice
