Ridiculous Situation & Terminology From Post Office Credit Card

Hi all...

i thought i'd just share my experience with the Post Office Credit Card.

Ive never defaulted on a payment before, and for some silly reason, when i made an electronic payment to the Post Office Credit Card from my Alliance & Leicester current account, i stupidly put the word ' REPAYMENT' in the reference instead of the Card number.( i also happened to do this with my barclaycard payment too, and it was returned in 3 days). however, the Post Office credit card didnt return it via electronic method, and chose to send an 'Inter-bank cheque' back to the bank, to return the funds back to the sender (me). and i was told that this can take 15 days. the payment has still has not been received back by my bank yet, and today i received this letter, which doesnt appear to be in plain english.

to be honest i know its my mistake, but it was a genuine mistake when trying to pay my credit card bills, but i am a bit confused by the whole affair, and dont understand why they didnt just return the payment electronically, like barclaycard did, instead of this fiasco with a inter-bank-cheque., and then this ridiculously worded letter.
(which i have had to type as being a new member i cant upload the scanned letter :(

  • You made a mistake - you now have to wait for them to sort it out.
If your internet banking does not have a list of companies with correct sort code and account numbers so that you only have to put in your card number it might be time to change banks.
  • yes i know i made a mistake, i pointed that out at the beginning of my post, and also the sort code and account numbers were correct, it was the reference number i didnt enter correctly... any other credit card company would just return the payment, to where it came from, via the method originally used. but im more interested to know if the letter/form, i received that I and a witness are suppose to sign and return is meant for me or in fact the bank, bearing in mind the unclear english used.

I guess they do things differently in Ireland (Post office Credit card) than they do in the UK (Barclays).
