random number generator

we are having a raffle in my local and i have been tasked with finding a rng. it would need to be able to generate between 1 - 500 and we would like to display it on a laptop filling the screen so everyone can see it. does anyone know of any software that would do what we want.

btw..we are aware of other posts saying that a number generated by a pc is not really random, unless using "ernie" which is generated by sound or something, being based near Blackpool maybe some rift from either windscale or barrow in furness. lol

  • How about the built in Excel command.

Enter "=RANDBETWEEN(1,500)" in cell A1 (without the quotes) and then show excel full screen and turn off toolbars, etc and make the font size 244 points or similar. Can make it re-calculate by pressing F9.

Works in Excel 2007, not sure if that formula exists in older versions, but could do something similar with the RND function, I guess. OpenOffice - sure there is something similar too.

    Hope that helps,

    Regards,

    Do you have Microsoft Powerpoint

Strangely there was someone made a post on these forums for a similar thing

You basically do a powerpoint document, create slides with numbers 1-500 on them, set their timings to 00:00 seconds so they're on a continously loop, then start the slide show.

Slightly time consuming, but it's just as random as letting another program choose it for you.

To stop it on a random letter you press the letter S....

I will write you an application in C# if you want. Nice easy project and I can tick it off my good deed list.:D
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
