  • thanks Rich - I think I am a coca cola addict - I don't drink hot drinks so this will be invaluable. Do you think I could buy 1 and then my hubby and I share the cup!! how tight is that!!!
Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw - managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 2016
  • Another good tip for saving money is to check the price of your cruise often. We booked a week in april in the caribbean on the celebrity solstice on 2/1/10 and paid £918pp for cruise only, since then there has been 4 price drops and we are now paying £490pp.this has more than paid for our air fares and lots of yellow bird cocktails!!!!!
We booked direct with Celebrity(part of Royal Caribbean) but you can get the reduction if you've booked with a travel agent.
  • Some info on your cruise ship here, I had the drinks prices from a cruise ship mag that came through the door a couple of weeks ago. When and where are you going.

    Good advice.

I booked a short 6 day cruise from Singapore which I incorporated into our 3 week holiday in Asia recently.

I made the reservation directly with RCI and checked the prices regularly with 'phantom bookings'.

A couple of weeks before departure the price came down significantly and I contacted RCI who honoured the price drop without any hassle. Bearing in mind I was quite happy with the original price, I was obviously delighted.

The money was refunded onto my credit card, however, I used the cash (nearly £200.00) to spend on board.

As for the alcohol, I found the drinks somewhat expensive (avoid the daily cocktail specials - they are like maidens water!), although the bottles of wine that I puchased with the meals represented decent value bearing in mind we were in Asia who implement heavy taxes on wine. I found the mid priced wines drinkable (Chateau Lafite they weren't) but generally acceptable.

BTW - I intended buying my duty free liquor at Changi airport, however, the on board prices in the small duty free shop were excellent (in US$).

Enjoy your cruise (we did - it was our first and we decided on a short duration trip as a 'taster') and yes, the RCI section on cruise critic can be helpful although as someone alluded to earlier on this thread, some of the 'regular posters' with their impressive lists of previous cruises and diamond status etc..... tend to have their heads up their own backsides at times, however, you can disable the signatures!;)
