Upgrading

I am able to upgrade to a Iphone if I want but have been unable to get a few straight answers from Orange customer services, I am hoping someone here can help

If I upgrade can I get a new number ? The reason for wanting a new number is that my other half has been using my phone number for his bike building stuff ( ie to get people to call him when they have a part or need something etc) I really do not want those calls but as they all know the number it seems easier for me to change.

Is the Iphone really any good, I am not really technically minded so don't understand the figures I was quoted about what it can do.
All I want is simple and easy really...Make calls and send messages and get my emails and check sites online etc.
I do like the apps that I have on my phone now, GPS etc as they help but I could live without them if needs be.
I do like music on my phone though as it saves me getting a mp3 or anything like that.

Any advice gratefully received.

Ta

Orange will change your number for, for free, once. After that they'll change you (a tenner I think?).

You're best bet is to go to a store and try an iPhone. Some people love them, other hate them. Considering you'll be stuck with it for 24 months you need to be sure be for you commit. . .

It depends how you define 'good'. If you just want simple functions, there will be much cheaper phones, but with a different user experience. Some people think iPhones are the greatest invention ever and others won't touch them with a barge pole.

You really need to play with one for a while and see what you think. Unfortunately with phones, it's often difficult to gauge the pros and cons by just looking at a dummy phone in a shop.

The contract would be for 12 months so not really that long (seeing as how time seems to go so fast now I passed 30)
Can my other half still use the old number (sim card ) in his phone and me get a new one all together ?
I don't want to lose the number all together as he uses it

  • There are no 12 month iPhone contracts.. and you won't be able to get any money off by upgrading..

My home page on Orange states

    :
    • £30.00
    • 12 months
    • 150 minutes
    • 250 texts
    • £ --
    • show details
Iphone free or extra minutes etc if I do 18 months (still not 24 months as stated above)

What do you mean money off ? I was not looking for money off? I wanted a new phone and for my partner to keep their phone with the number attached to the contract.

If you change the number you lose it.
There no method of keeping it, the software on the server can't do it. Once you generate the new number the old one get dumped, sorry.

I have called 150 for Orange and been told that there was a fault with my account / home page and it has no updated so the Iphone is not free with the contract anyway.

I think I might bin Orange off all together and get a new phone from someone else as then the old number can be kept as a pay as you go > I hope

You can drop a contract number to payg, no problem. They'll just send you a new payg sim.

If you do go that route though you MUST register the new sim when you get it or the contract won't end. We have people on here about once a month who've done this and just dropped the new sim a draw without registering it first and then X months down the road find their still paying for their contract !!!
  • Tesco offer a 12mth iPhone contract if that's any good to you...
