Messed around by Homebase

Hi,
I ordered a bed from Homebase on the 23rd of Jan (in the January sale)
I heard nothing within the 10 days but just thought i'd leave it, I then received an automated phone call about a week later (start of feb) saying that the item was out of stock and I would receive it on the 7th march, at first I was annoyed but thought I'd bite my tongue and just be patient.
Today I've had a phonecall saying that the Homebase suppliers aren't going to re-stock the bed and that they're "sorry"
Now what's really annoyed me through this is:
-Why not inform me earlier that the item wasn't in stock
-I paid for it in the Jan sales and so now if I'm to buy another bed it's going to cost a lot more.
-Automated phonecalls
-Sleeping on a mattress on the floor for 3 months (and now more!) isn't nice
Is there any way I can get some form of discount towards another bed from their site? I feel messed around by them and can't really afford to spend more than I originally did.
Cheers for any help and sorry for the rant

You complain about automated phone calls? Presumably this is to keep the costs down so that you can buy your scrubby bed for under a ton.
If you need it now - buy it now. Just be prepared to pay more to get it sooner from elsewhere.
They've gone out of stock and presumably will refund you (if they've already taken payment). What can they do? Predict that the suppliers will stop providing the product?
You purchased in the sales? If Homebase have sales as infrequently as DFS you may struggle to get another good deal. To be honest, if you're that angry with them I'm not sure why you'd even consider giving them your business again. Maybe you're just a mug like that.0 -

On the subject of beds, get up on the wrong side this morning?0 -
Presumably you could go back and ask for a discount to make up for the hassle you've had?0

Stop worrying about it, beds aren't really reduced in the sales anyway. You will find that they always have discounts on various models.
If I were you I'd take the refund and go an buy a decent bed on line.......Homebase/Argos only sell rubbish beds anyway.0 -
proc has a point acually, homebase can't predict if and when the supplier would be out of stock of an item, automated calls are used to update you,
Yes they could if they had a half decent stock control system linked to their checkouts. With a big retailer like Homebase (which also includes Argos in the group) they can dictate to the manufacturer which models they want them to make, how many, and for how long they want them to produce them.0 -
proc has a point acually,
He has a point, but I don't see any reason that he has to be so condescending about it. He seems to imply that anyone who wants to buy a bed for 'under a ton' is in some way a lesser person or a mug? I thought this site was about saving money??????
btw - actually has a T - I know it isn't relevant, but it is as constructive as proc.
OP - If they took the money from you in January then they should supply the bed, but if they didn't take the money then you probably don't have any comeback. I find that going to your local store and having a rant at the top of your voice usually helps. You get what you want about 50% of the time and you get nothing the other 50%, but you feel loads better0 -
Whether HomeBase took the money in January is neither here nor there.
The contract is only complete when the customer takes possession of the goods.
HB can just refund you and legally they are well within their rights to do this with the customer having no recourse.0 -

And for the OP that is the best course of action.0
