Hi All,
I really need your help!! My partner was made redundant at the end of November 2009 and we have been really struggaling since. In March last year i was made redundant and only got back into work in August 2009. In October my contact was up and so i renewed not knowing he was about to be made redundant. We have really been struggaling and despite his constant efforts the job front is very slow. Anyway the point is i cant afford my contract and wanted to know if there would be anyway of getting out of it due to redundancy?
If anybody could help it would be very much appreciated!:money:

The contract is valid but they may well consider reducing the amount of the contract or indeed cancelling it or going PAYG but it will probably need a decision maker and not just someone on the regular phone. If you have an expensive shiny new phone an a very recent contract then they may well want it back or ask you to pay something to keep it.
There is little in it for them to come after you if you cancel the direct debit and a negotiated solution would be better all round.
I would search for some email address and also look for hardship, such as there are on utility company websites.0 -
Depending on how long you have had Taken the contract for, Or how long you have had it there is only one way i know.
I had a 3 mobile 4 years ago on contract and the services were naff,
There was no signal at all.
Anywere in my area Unless i travelled 20 miles out to other cities like warrington.
I used that reason to get out of the contract because they were taking money from me yet not providing any service. There is this way available but since you have possibly been using the service i guess your locked in for 12 or 18 months so best thing to do is budget lose the pay monthly sim and place a pay as you go sim into the phone and just pay off the line rental on time. Either way it is still good for you because if you do that you can get a good credit file score because it is being paid every month.
hope that helps"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -
If you're with O2 they have a procedure for customers who have been made redundant - you don't get out of your contract but they do -something-.
I can't remember for the life of me what it actually is though (left my employment there last summer)0 -
best bet is to call them and see what they can do
perhaps drop your tariff costs and /or extend the terms to drop the price
if you have a newer model phone you might want to consider selling the handset to pay off O20 -
Thank you very much for these i will be contacting them today and asking for a decision maker or their disconnection department and ill see what they can do.....thanks again0

How did you get on? I don't know if this applies to phone contracts, but when my hubby lost his job we went to the CAB and got debt counselling advice from them, they re-negotiated all our outgoings for us and we didn't have to contact any of the companies involved ourselves, the CAB wrote letters on our behalf. They managed to get a loan company to accept a payment of £1 a week and similar small amounts on our other debts. If you're struggling to pay the bills generally it might be worth visiting your local branch.0
