Will new cars be cheaper when scrappage ends?
Options
After doing extensive research and test drives I have decided the Panda is the car for me, I've already sorted finance etc and I can run a brand new Panda for the same price I have been running my 10 year old Corsa for even with the monthy repayments.
I bought the car on the 27th of March 09 so it wont' qualify till the 26th of March 10 so it is pushing it fine. If I miss out on scrappage will the prices of new cars fall quite a lot? At the moment the bog standard Panda retails at £7700 which is madness but it is £4995 ont he scrappage.
PS I don't want a second hand car, just had far too much bad luck. I have spent so much on bangers I could have bought a brand new car cash.

I think they might be. I am certain that every new car increased in price by around at least £1,000 at the start of the scrappage scheme.Mortgage free

I don't think they'll go back to what they were before the start of the scheme but they'll come down slightly imo.0

Scrappage is only a small part of the problem, the devaluation of the pound has had a far bigger impact, many manufacturers have increase prices by 15-30%
if all things stay as they are it will be a few years before it settles down0 -
But each manufacture has to pay £1k towards the scheme so surely dealers will knock £1K if pushed and still make the same about profit?0

I think prices will be lower briefly but I suspect the manufacturing base has to shrink somemore (over supply) which will mean higher prices longer term.0

Yep but I'd like to meet anyone who bought the 1.1 at that price! Same as the Corsa starting at from £11,000 and Focus from £17K. All cars have jumped in price now after years of relative stability. You can get over a grand off a Panda without asking. I'd possibly say take the 1.2 rather than the 1.1 Panda for extra equipment!0 -
I imagine that list prices will remain the same, but the discounts will increase so haggle hard!0

The 1.1 eco now has the 12v output so really the only thing the 1.2 has is aircon and I am not too fuss about that. Both have electric windows, power steering and central locking and that is the only extras I ever want in a car.
On the scrappage the 1.2 works out much more expensive but via brooker its only a few hundered more. If do I go via scrappage I will take the 1.1 but if I do not manage to get the scrappage on time I will go for the 1.2
I have basicaly decided I won't pay any more than £500 extra for the 1.2.0 -
I've paid £100 deposit on a Panda Eco for £6800 at Arnold Clarke but the price has now gone down to £5400 at other dealers and even on FIATs website it is a special offer till the end of March.
Is there anything I can do at this stage? The finance is through FIAT so if I pull out now and go with another dealer could that cause problems? Do I just have to live the fact I got my timing wrong?0 -

Go back to AC and ask them what they are going to do. If nothing then order elsewhere and cancel your order. Just read their T+C to ensure there is nothing nasty in them.0
