    I could well be wrong but I seem to remember being told at a local post office that as long as the queens head was there then they were legal tender..

    I've been told this as well, but until I read your post I thought it might have been a dream. Apparently it is treason to put the stamp on upside down. (Gonna check snopes before I post this - oops - too late)
