My 2 O2 dongles are SIM free. I use them with Vodafone sometimes.

Do a search for O2 on this forum and you'll find plenty of deals. The last one was £10.50 (Web & Text) with no contract.

Even if you Google you'll find most of the popular dongles can be unlocked.

£20 at the moment http://shop.o2.co.uk/promo/o2mobilebroadband/tab/Pay_and_Go but you should go through Quidco.

    Do some searching.
  • I managed to unlock a Huawei E160G supplied by 3, for free, by using this forum:

Not sure what models they are unable to unlock?
  • just search on eBay for O2 dongle and select the one which is UNLOCKED. you can use it on any network you like - can't be more simpler or cost effective than that.
  • I unlocked by dongle using instructions I found on the net for free. Plenty of shops and market stalls that will unlock a dongle.

I switch SIMs depending on deals and the coverage on where I am.
I use a non-expiring vodafone sim that I got off ebay and a 3 PAYG sim.
  • i got one of ebay unlocked and it is truly awesome. the speed is faster than my standard broadband connection and with it being pay as you go i don't need to worry about contracts. also its unlocked so if i see another network with a cheaper offer i just stick the sim in. i paid £30 for a unlocked one and can't fault it.
  • Once you have the unlocked dongle, how much does it cost on average per gig download?

Depends on the network and the type of tariff you choose. E.g. you can pay per mb downloaded or pay for a certain number of gb to use within a fixed period.

1Gb - Anywhere between £15 and £5 or even less.
Depends if its PAYG or contract and if the credit expires or not.
